Stomach Viruses Post Op
I have had a nasty stomach virus for the past 2 days....totally terrible....I just didn't believe I could throw up so much or clean out the old poop chute quite so wonderfully! It's been terrible but it got me thinking......
Are stomach viruses different post-op? Without all the extra stomach acid and just the small pouch...you can't quite possibly throw up like this anymore can you??
On the plus side I've lost 7 pounds in almost 2 days! Just in time for my surgeon appointment tomorrow. Heh.

They are WAY different. I HATE throwing up LOL, who likes it eh??
I have had viruses a few times in the past 6 years since surgery. I get "the runs", chills, fever, sweats etc, but the only throwing up will be whatever is in your pouch. No bile, no gross tasting(sorry).
Whatever is in your pouch comes out exactly how it went in.

I know I don't have an RNY but when I get a stomach virus, I get very nauseated and seldom vomit, really never did. I find my nausea lingers for a long time and then I end up getting diarrhea. I have vomitted a few times with a stomach virus since surgery and it ain't pretty.

I am almost 2 years post op and have had the stomach flu at least 3 times since surgery, 2 times this year (thanks to having young kids in school/daycare). Compared to before surgery I think it was much worst as the dry heaves really made my sleeve sore for days..on the plus side (if there is a plus side)..the last time I lost 10lbs in 2 days.
For me (with a VSG), it is way different! No bile or nasty taste (tastes the same as going in) and no big heaving stomach aches! A big improvement for sure. When it comes to going out the other end, there are no changes. I can still get big cramps and runny stools.
