large calves go away
Hello everyone, It has been about 6.5 months since my surgery and I am feeling and looking great at 89 pounds lost.
I have lost weight from my head to my knees and it seems to have stopped there. Now mind you have I taken my measurements and I have lost a few inches from my calves but they are still abnormally and grossly HUGE!!!
Is there anyone out there that has my problem and been through this process? Can I expect to lose weight there and for them to be relatively normal? My calves are as hard as rock and not flabby at all.
I even looked into lymphedema (sp??) thinking maybe..... but I have no related symptoms.
Next week we head to Mexico and really right now I would wear a bikinni but I would want to wear knee high black socks to cover my calves.
Silly I know but it really has me confused as to what is happening or not happening with these massive calves.

Good morning lovely lady!!!
Have you thought about taking a spinning class?
Dr. Reed is a huge fan of bicycling. When hubby mentioned bicycling was something he enjoyed, Dr. Reed lit up and went on and on about bicycling. He said it was so effective to engage the butt and large muscle groups of the legs and went on and on about how afterwards the body continues to burn more and more calories while even at rest. (I knew all this already but he really raved about it too hubby). Helping to tone your legs with something like this may help your legs look slimmer and shapelier over time if you are not already doing it.
Otherwise I'm guessing that will be your last to lose area and that often seems to be the norm. Most everyone I know lost everything from the top first (including boobs) and then the butt/stomach and legs were last to go! People lose so differently - - it's going to come - just hang in there :)
Hope to see you on Tuesday

Have you always been big your entire adult life? Did you ever know a time in your adult life when your calves were more in proportion to the rest of your legs?
Just an idea.....if they are hard....it is muscle. Muscle that has been built up over time carrying around excess weight kind of like a body builder. Might this be a possibility?

My calves and ankles are being really slow to change too even after 9 months from surgery. Frustrating, so I am wearing long skirts and buying straight legged trousers so they don't catch. I had thought my big knees would be slow to slim down, but they have shrunk proportionally more. Patience is what is need I guess, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.

your not alone, my calves have always been really big, from the side view they look ``normal`` but from the from there so wide they look like the same width as a couple inches above my knee.Ive only ever been able to wear cardy uggs for high boots...stretchy wool material. Hope they go down! keep us updated :)
mine are the same and I am almost 3 years post-op..only difference for me is that I am not a physically fit individual...sure I walk and take the stairs every day, but I don;t do any outside physical type activity like exercise classes.
I think that when you reach a certain weight and that fat is redistributed and has shrunk..sometimes you will end up with an area where there isn't much fine tuning you can do.
Believe me I have a boot fetish and I always have to ask what the circumfernce is at the top/opening of the boot!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
