The taste of iron
At my one month follow up with the Dietician at TWH I asked what she recommended for an iron supplement and she recomended either the BA chewable iron (if you didn't mind ordering online) or the liquid iron available at pharmacies here.
She also told me for the liquid iron that I need to be sure to do the following:
1: brush my teeth right after, because it can stain (also helps with getting rid of the taste)
2: don't take it with any other vit.s
3: Iron often causes constipation, so you'll likely want to take a stool softener.
4: don't take at the same time as a stool softener (it'll flush away the iron)

Sorry to join this so late, but I'd like to ask about the comment that Feramax is not as good for RNY'ers as Proferrin. I thought they were both heme iron? Is there something else I should be aware of.
I've been trying to fix low iron since 2 weeks post surgery, and am taking 450 units of Feramax a day now. Although by "iron" (blood iron) isn't going up, my ferritin (iron stored in tissue) is. Strange!
Thanks
Claire
