Protein?!?!

I am having a really difficult time finding low fat, high protein food up here. I had my surgery at the end of September and have been living with my parents in the States until I came back up a week ago.
The US is the land of diet food but I didn't realize how difficult it would be to get the food I need. It is really frustrating that the only low fat cheese sticks I can find are rubbery skim mozzarella string cheese and nowhere seems to carry my favourite yogurt (I'm in the process of trying new ones though). The turkey bacon I've found is really weird. I'm eating chicken and salmon basically and quite a lot of cashews which have a ton of fat. And protein drinks? I'm going to a GNC in a bit to see if I can find any that might work for me but mostly I can only find the powder ones which I really am not a fan of. I mean, I can't even find my favourite kind of Crystal Light.

I'm going crazy and I'm not getting nearly enough protein.

have you tried pillers turkey pepperettes? they're yummy.

Lean ground beef makes an awesome chili.

Pork loin chops are lower in fat than other cuts.

there is other fish besides salmon. My local Zehrs carries some nice trout and other fish.

Shrimp is also a good source of protein, i've purchased bags of cooked shrimp, nice with some seafood sauce.

i dont think you really need to eat low fat cheese, if its gross. Eat normal cheese. Moderation is the key.

ETA - eggs, mmmm yummy. If you want to watch your fat, leave out the yolk. Also check out the ontario recipe group, there's lots of good ideas there.

Source yogurt is nice, 0% fat and no sugar, has some good flavours.

Stick to the outside aisles of the grocery store, buy things that aren't processed so much. The "diet foods" you found in teh states are like processed to the gills.

I agree with Monica. Cheese doesnt have to be low fat. I dont buy the low fat stuff. Chicken and salmon are great but there's a whole world of meats out there ready for the taking.

I dont eat any diet foods. I even gave up Crystal Light. I try and stick with unprocessed, whole foods and I manage 120+g of protein a day.

There is nothing wrong with some fat in your diet, it's just about common sense. Virtually any unprocessed meat will be fine, as long as you cut off the excess fat and don't eat skin. Low fat cheese is gross and unnecessary, it has more carbs than regular cheese too. Presidents choice and Butterball both make turkey bacon, I'm not sure which you've tried, but try the other and see what you think. The fat in nuts are good for you, so expand your nut options, almonds, walnuts, peanuts, pecans, etc.As long as your carbs are low, you've got the room in your diet for more calories from fat.

Greek Yogurt is good and I eat lots of nuts, almonds and walnuts mostly and sometimes I even mix these two together with fruit.  Remember that although they are high in fat, it is good fat.

Kashi bars are good too.  Not as high in protein as a regular protein bar but are quite tasty.

The other posters have given you some great suggestions, so try those out. You could also eat edamame. Super yummy boiled or steamed in the pod with a bit of salt sprinkled on it. Plus it makes a good on the go snack, but I prefer mine more fresh from the hot pot.
I know you said that you are not a fan of powdered protein drinks but have you tried Nectar protein from Syntrax. There powder mixes easily with a spoon and tastes delicious (and I mean don't-need-to-add-anything-if-you-don't-want-to and stick-your-finger-in-the-jar-and-eat-like-candy kind of good). I would think that they are a bit more readily available down in the states so give them a shot. If you like fruit punch, try the Carribean Cooler, or Fuzzy Navel is a yummy peach punch, but there are a bunch of different flavours. Hope this helps!

My stomach REALLLLLY doesn't handle fat well. I have to be really careful. I don't eat light things just because I'm trying to lose weight. I've had to eat them since I had my gallbladder out several years ago but it has gotten worse since my surgery. I eat higher fat things sometimes but it doesn't usually go very well. Higher fat meat is usually okay though.
