So, I went on the registry website, found out I would be referred to Guelph...went and called the Guelph Clinic to see if they got my referral...nope, not there...but the woman (no fault of her own, nicest person I've talked to on the phone) informed me that there is at least a year and a half waiting list...A YEAR AND A HALF????  I asked if there was any way I can go somewhere else...she told me that they don't do that because of the waiting list??? WTF?  I am a type of a person that once I've made a decision, especially if it has to do with myself, I want to go all guns...it's my impatience showing...a bit of a disappointment, that's for sure but...crossing fingers that maybe it'll go faster than what they say???

Moving on doesn't mean you forget about things.  It just means you have to accept what happened and continue LIVING

I just switched from Guelph, my referral was received June 3rd and I was told just to wait for orientation would be about 16 months, then you have to do all the appts and meet the surgeon. All in all about 3 years from referral to surgery.
I am moving to Toronto so thats why I was able to transfer. I wish all the patience in the world to you. It will come. Although at a snails pace.

it may go faster. Sometimes i think they like to give the worst case scenario, so that if it happens any sooner, you're happy. There are people who have changed centres, due to excessive wait times.

The key to switching your centre seems to be having support elsewhere for surgery. I know some people have been able to switch because they had friends or family closer to another centre who were going to assist with aftercare. The Toronto and Hamilton centres have the shortest wait times. You must contact the registry and not the Guelph centre about having your file transferred.

thank you!  I'll see what I can find out...I know it's not going to happen too quickly but was hoping to have it within a year?

Thats actually not true. I just switched last week. I spoke t the registry first and I was told they can do nothing, you must contact the centre you are at request to be transferred (if you have a qualifing reason) they will transfer your file.

That's good to know! This must have changed. When I started at TWH, I spoke to them about switching to Hamilton and was told that the registry must move my file, not them, unless I was referred there by someone on the team. The registry wouldn't move me to St. Joe's just because I wanted to see a particular surgeon and said that I can be referred by the TWH surgeon if he agrees. They told me at that time that they will move referrals for other reasons, like a relocation or better resources in another city. This is why I first saw a TWH surgeon and he referred me Dr. Hong at St. Joe's Hamilton, rather than just starting the process at St. Joe's. I guess things have changed!

I agree with Monica. Don't let it get you down, I am sure it is a worst case Demario. I am in Toronto and was told 18 -24 months. I actuality my federal was Dec12 2010 and I had survey Dec 20 2011.

The process could go much faster than you think.

Good luck.
