also I forgot to mention, she did say (at the Guelph Bariatric Clinic) that they were going through the May list????  Okay...ummm...how many people actually go through this, I had researched it and found out that Guelph got the "okay" from the government to perform 240/year...and there's at least 5 or more bariatric clinics in Ontario...so if on average they do 200/year each, that's 1000!  that seems like a lot of people are in the same predicament here...which astounds me...I guess I had thought that this wasn't as routine as it's turned out to be....not trying to put any negativity on this, cause hello, here I am, but it is a bit sad that that m any people a year feel that this is their only option...I've been battling for years, even went on those fad diets, joined a gym, etc...but found other obstacles seem to have blocked my efforts...now the main obstacle is no longer a factor, find that I don't have the luxury of time on my side anymore.  Guess I'm just venting...thank you for all the support and continue giving it!! :)

Moving on doesn't mean you forget about things.  It just means you have to accept what happened and continue LIVING

you would be surprised on how many people do have this same problem....i like yourself have been through it all to and so many more people doing the diets, gyms etc.....when i went to ottawa i was surprised on how many people were there for the same reason as me.....than i knew i wasnt alone in this journey.....with me having thyroid problems and diabetes and of course my age is 50 it wasnt easy losing weight....therefore i chose to go this way before i died at the age of 56 like my mom did for being over weight.....everyone does this for different reasons and health problems...

There are a LOT of people waiting for weight-loss surgery in Ontario - more than you thought, obviously.  Obesity is a major problem today and more and more people are coming to the realization that bariatric surgery is their best hope for a chance at a healthier life. I used to feel that bariatric surgery was too risky, but as diet after diet failed for me and my co-morbidities increased and my BMI skyrocketed to a dangerously high level, I finally asked my doctor for a referral.  Since then, I've learned that it is an extremely safe procedure with skilled doctors and it's the right answer for hundreds of people. So, you shouldn't be surprised at the high numbers of surgeries being done.  Many people have tried everything else only to find that they just couldn't lose the weight they needed to, especially if they are super obese.  Like you, they find that time is an issue and they've decided that they need to do this now & can't afford to wait any longer.

Like you, when I decide to do something, I want it to go as quickly as possible, but it doesn't happy that way. If there is one thing you will be forced to learn on this journey, it is that you will need to learn to be patient. Everyone wants to get through this journey as soon as they can so that they can start to live healthier but it's a long wait. Use the waiting time to your advantage, to learn about the lifestyle changes you'll need to make in order to be successful.  Above all, relax and just accept the fact that it will take at least 12 - 18 months - maybe a bit more or less, depending on cir****tances.  Patience is the key.........

I was able to switch from Guelph to Toronto. I followed up with the registry to confirm they sent my referral to Guelph, then I called Guelph directly and the lady was really nice. She forwarded my referral right on to HRRH. This was in June, I had my orientation there in August.

I am new to this. I had planned on getting the lap band but decided against it for many reasons.

In October my dr. sent the referral for gastric bypass to Hamilton.

What is the registry website and how do I find it.  Does it tell you where you are on the list or just if they got the referral?

Any insight you can give me on this process would be greatly appreciated!

Here's the website

www.bariatricregistry.ca/

It doesn't actually tell you where you are on the list but if you put in your postal code it will tell you where you should have been referred and then you can follow up with them to make sure they received it.

Thanks Tracey. It says I would be referred to Sudbury based on my postal code.  Will call them tomorrow to see if they recieved it.

Someone just posted last night that Sudbury just opened in December so no idea if the old referrals went there or if they stayed at TWH.  If Sudbury can't find you then I'd try emailing or calling the registry to see where your file is.
