Hi Melissa,

Glad to hear you are doing better and sorry to hear about your hospital adventures not being exactly like what you thought. I've seen you post on here a lot and so I know that you must have been learning a lot and are well prepared for your new lifestyle, even if it's slightly changed. Just like RNY, the VSG is a tool and it's up to you to rock it! I know you can do! Just like what the other posters mentioned, follow your plan, stick to the rules and it will happen. Plus, Erica gave some great advice and she's an excellent example of VSG success!

All the best and rest up!

Hi Melissa,

It must have indeed been a shock to wake up and find out all of this information.  I am sure you researched and prepperd to the max with RNY and it is no wonder you feel a bit shell-shocked.  I am also sure that you will do well with your weightloss.  As others have said, many other have had VSG and wouldn't change it for all the world.  Good luck with your healing.  I hope you are well and on your way home soon!

I am glad to hear you are on your way home tomorrow.  Take your pain meds every 4 hours exactly to stay on top of the pain.

When you are feeling a bit better you can start looking into the surgery you received. It's not what you planned on but you did come out with a safe result and a tool that will get you where you want to be.  I have realised in the past 7 weeks since my VSG surgery that the only thing that really matters is my committment to making changes in my life.  I am underfeeding my sleeve and am satisfied. Erica is a great example of what can be achieved. Sleep and sip for now. Best wishes, Paula

Hi Melissa,

I'm sorry about your hospital adventures and hope you go home tomorrow.  I too was in the similar situation at TWH.  I went in for an RNY and came out with a sleeve.  Same thing in recovery, was thinking what are they talking about a sleeve for?

I was a little disappointed, but at the end of the day I am happy with it. I have lost 44 pounds in 2 months (including optifast) and i would have not lost that amount of weight on any type of other plan.  I feel good about all i am eating and am keeping away from the white stuff.

I am thankful  at least they were able to do some type of surgery.

When you get better, at home, you will feel better.  Take it slow..

As soon as your heart mends a bit Pinkjellybean, you will realize that you were blessed with a different tool but equally as effective.  I don't have any doubts that you will be able to work your VSG well.

I will be thinking about you

Aw Melissa, I'm so sorry that you are disappointed and that things have not gone as smoothly as it could have  BUT, in time, I'm sure you're going to love your VSG, like most of us who have one do.  I lost 100 lbs and got to goal in 10 months, easily.  It is really a maintenance free surgery and very comparable with regard to weightloss to the RNY.

All the best to you and please keep us posted.

Oh Melissa, you are SO much stronger than you realize girl! You are going to be totally fine, in fact I dare say you are going to be awesome!

From the day that I first met you, and everything I have ever read (from your posts) or learned about you since, I've said to myself: There's a girl that is going to rock this thing. You are very intelligent, and very committed to this...that committment just beams through your eyes!

I agree, I too would feel like someone threw my a curveball waking up with a sleeve, but VSG or RNY, it don't matter...it's still a tool, and it is still going to be that unwavering commitment inside yourself that is going to bring you to goal one day.

And don't worry, not one single person on this site has every gone through this process without some doubts from time to time, but I will say this: if I was a gambler, I'd put my money on you.

Hugs - (because we all need'em from time to time)

and just focus on healing for the next couple weeks... and soon You will start feeling like your old confident self in no time... ready to rock it...

Hi

I am glad that you are recovering well and going home soon. As the other said, it is a tool just like the RNY and it will help you get to where you are going.  I originally wanted the sleeve, but could not get it. I did lots of research on it and I found that people who have it love it. It is just as effective as the RNY.

Regardless, concentrate on getting well. Use all the TWH resources to find out as much as you can and you'll be rockin along to your goals in no time.

All the best

Tamara
