Baby Steps.....
VSG on 01/25/12
My recovery has been difficult! More difficult than I ever imagined it would be. I had such a hard time tolerating fluids in hospital - the pain was just unbearable. Every day has been torture but a little less torturous than the one before.
I am so proud of myself that today I actually had in addition to water/crystal light...1/4 cup of Protein Shake and 1/4 cup of cream of mushroom soup!
I know that's not technically where I'm supposed to be given I am 8 days out of surgery now but small baby steps are working in my favour right now and I just feel so proud!
Now if I could just stop gulping my water when I swallow the nasty tasting crushed percocets! OUCH that hurts too much. I hope my pain goes away soon so I don't need those disgusting pills!

Oh man, I hear ya!! Im not gonna lie my first 3 days were pretty brutal! I agree, it was much harder then I thought!! I literally couldnt move or get out of bed the first day and night.... i couldn't believe it..... but now im reahing 2 weeks and each day DOES get so much better! Hang in there. let your body heal. And even if you have a day where you start to feel good, still be sure to take it easy. Try cutting the percs into halfs or into 4 instead of crushing them.... or crush them on jello! yummy yummy lol! :)
Don't expect too much of yourself only a week out. Your little pouch and your insides have been brutalized and everyone heals at a different speed. While it's easy to say that you should be eating this much here and this much there, the reality is that you are the only one who feels what your body is feeling - you are the only one who truly knows your limits. Listen to your body, take it very slowly, and if you can only handle 1/4 cup, then that's what you can handle. Next day you can try for an extra teaspoon. It's most important to get fluids in to keep you hydrated. The food part will happen gradually. I'm 6 months out, and I still can only handle about 1/2 cup at a time, 3/4 if it's something slippery, like soup. You're doing fine, and every day will be a little better than the next.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
