Another step done...

I had my gastric class today at Humber River. It was really informative.
I am booked for a MD Init, Registered Dietician and Social worker on the 8th, followed up with the Nurse on the 13th.
I think the Dr consult (MD Init) is with the surgeon right?
So because of the transfer from Ottawa to Humber River, I had pre-surgical class in Ottawa. I had class today, and I'm scheduled for Dr., Social worker, Dietician and RN.
Is that all the classes and appointments barring any issues that may arise?
As well, the bottom of this computer print out they gave me says
Appt Resources
BARIKLEIN
BARIATRIC DR L KLEIN
So, could I hazzard to guess that Dr. Klein is my surgeon?
On another note, I bought bariatric advantage calcium chewables in wild cherry flavour, and beneprotein mix at the in hospital pharmacy. That was convenient. I also picked up some B12 melt in the mouth strips too.
Thank you in advance for your help. I just got a bare minimum package today and trying to figure out where I am in this journey. (now that my file is definately in existance and not lost again)

Hi Heather... I am not sure... but I think the "MD Init" as you wrote is with Dr. Glazer he is the Medical Internist (also medical director of HRRH Bariatric program) all patients must see him... he decides based on your session with him what testing you will need done before he will approve you for surgery with Dr. Klein (and yes he is a surgeon).
Good luck, you're on your way!
Enjoy your day, Donna

Thanks Donna.
So I think that means I will still have to meet with a psychiatrist and the surgeon then. That clarifies things. Thanks again.
Brenda, Thanks for your support and encouragement. You are always so nice.

HI there,
My original referral to the registry was Sept 9th 2010. He told me it would take about a year. I saw my Dr again Aug 15 2011 and he re-sent my referral. It turns out that when the registry was transferred from Toronto to Ottawa, many people's files were "lost" myself included.
After he followed up with them, I had a package in the mail and Pre-surgical assessment class in Ottawa December 9th 2011. I got a phone call some time around Dec 20th from Ottawa to ask if I wanted to be transferred to Humber River. She said they were doing a bulk transfer and my surgery would be January, Feb or March. I was told of extra costs like hotel stay and blood thinner. I agreed.
I called Humber River Jan 9th to confirm they had my file. They did and were to call back with appointments. I called again Jan 24th since no one called. They could not find my file and were to call me back. I called again 20 minutes before closing and got a date Feb 2nd for bypass class.
I had no paperwork from Humber until I saw them last week. All the paper work we filled out in Ottawa was not transferred. All they got is a name and number. That being said, there is no way my surgery will be done by March. I still have not met the surgeon nor do I have an appointment for that or a psychiatrist.
Long story, but that's how it all went down :)

wow long wait for you then ,,my referel went to ottawa early june within 2 weeks i had a package sent to me for orientation in july ,however due to postal strike by time i got my package all the classes were booked.so aug 19th i had my orientation , during the class they said if we wanted to transfer to humber to write it on our form ,,and i did that ,,they said it would cut off a few months wait time ,,i really would like to go to humber seeings how its a hour less drive then ottawa..
Its frustrating when i see others that did orientation after me get appointments before me,,after orientation i was told i should hear something within a few months ,,then i called after a few months and they told me 7 to 9 months they were still doing march files ,,i called a few weeks ago and they said they were into may files now ,,geesh ..sure wish i had went to humber to begin with.

Well, on one side, by the time you get through morning rush hour in Toronto, the drive is nearly the same lol.
This whole journey is really teaching us patience. It should help when we have to take a long time to eat and chew
I hope things pick up for you. Do you have any snow there?
