What items do you buy in the states?
I actually don't go to the states to get my foods and vitamins.
The dollar is at par and you're not really saving anything, IMHO. And you may have to pay duty at the border if you spend too much money. It says on the website for the border that within a 24hr period, you can only spend $50.. not really worth it, imo.
I always find great deals at Walmart or at my local pharmacy. I generally stock up on the vitamins that I take when things go on sale.

Thanks Leanne,
I am a frequent cross-border shopper so know all about duty. I could find better plus sizes over there at a reasonable price, as well as underwear, etc. Now, that i am losing weight, i doubt i will be looking in the plus size stores.
But there are different stores there, that i like to shop at that we don't have here.

Personally I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE cross border shopping for the grocery items, and it has little to nothing to do with saving money. If I do save money that is just a bonus...I love the variety, all the reduced fat and sugar (if not fat free, and sugar free) items that are available there, that I just can't seem to find here.
For example when I go, I specifically look for:
Apple Cinnamon Straws (Exactly like the Veggie Straws you get here, but a sweet version, I like for a little treat once in a while)
Low Fat or Fat free cheese (Their cheese is ridiculously cheap compared to ours, and huge varieties of low fat and fat free that you just can't find here)
Low Fat cream cheese (they do have fat free, but I don't like it much)
Fat Free half and half cream
Sugar Free/Fat Free Jello Pudding (they do have it here, but it's quite a *****eaper in the US, and their flavor selection rocks!)
Hill Bros Fat Free (Double Mocha or French Vanilla) Cappucino mix (only 50 calories for a mug, and it's delicious!)
Protein Bars (Think Thin is designed for women losing weight not men building muscle...There is another brand I really like too, the name reminds me of Lunesta, the sleep aid...but I can't remember the actual name)
Mio (very much like a liquid version of Crystal Lite comes in a little bottle, and you add as much as you like to your water depending on how much "flavor" you want in it)
Low Carb Wraps (they are in any grocery store, only net 4 or 5 carbs)
Dreamfields Pasta (It's much cheaper and available in most grocery stores in several varieties)
Papaya Enzyme Chewable Tablets (Walmart has them for $4.97 for 180 tablets, hard to beat that price)
Sugar Free Cake Mix, SF Cookie Mix, SF Brownie Mix, depending on whether I have some event coming up that I might have to bring something nobody else will even know is sugar free.
SF Hot Chocolate
SF Hot Apple Cider Mix
Crystal Lite
I am sure there are other things, but these are the things I pretty much know I am looking for EVERY time I go across the border.
