does Humber sell bariatric supplements or have any samples, I'm reading all this information and I'm almost afraid to buy anything in case there is some brand I might like better,  I would appreciate all input.  Thanks

I don't think any clinic sells any product other than Optifast, but I only dealt with Guelph.

Sometimes I think people should bring in samples of their favourite proteins to groups so that people can try them. Sometimes I suffer through something I don't like just because I've put the money down and cannot afford to throw things away.

We can use sugar free syrups and the like to help change some tastes and that is okay too. I guess some places have money back guarantees if you don't like the product too, but I live in a small town and when I go to the city to buy something it is likely I am not there again for a while.

I went through HRRH. The pharmacy in the office building next to hospital (same building where you go to the Bariatric Clinic but on the 2nd floor) sells the Bariatric Advantage (which is the Calcium Citrate 500 mg w/Vit K1, Vit D3 & Magnesium. One large bottle (270 tablets) is about $50 and is a 3 months supply as you will take 3 a day.

You will also need to buy a Multivitamin... I bought @ Shoppers Drug Mart the Centrum Select 50+ chewable (because I am over 50 yrs old) and the dietitian told me to take 2 of the multivitamins a day. Make sure you take them with you to hospital as I forgot mine at home and hubby had to bring them in they wanted me to start while in hospital.

I am 4.5 weeks post surgery and I must say I am having trouble getting in all 5 a day they are so big and must be taken with food. The dietitian said to suck them like lozenges especially the Bariatric Advantage as they taste awful even cinnamon ones I bought very chalky if chewed.

Choice is yours to buy...  most are listed in the  "Nutrition Guidelines after Surgery: RNY Gastric Bypass" booklet.

Hope this helps, if in doubt just call the clinic they are very good at responding to questions.
Enjoy your day, Donna

With the RNY, you should be taking double or 200% of the daily dose of the multivit, which likely means 4 per day, not 2.

I am sure once I get my blood work done next week at my first follow-up from surgery they will tell me if I need to "quadruple" up on the Multivitamins as you indicated... I take two Centrum per day based on the  recommendation of the dietitian who spent over an hour with me the day before I was discharged from the hospital. Thanks for your feedback and the heads up that I might need more.

Regardless of what your dietician says, it's a good idea because it is what the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery recommends. If she is recommending something less than what this body says is necessary for RNY patients, then she should be asked to justify why she is doing so, as it puts you at risk of deficiencies.

From the journal: Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases

ASMBS Allied Health Nutritional Guidelines for the Surgical Weight Loss Patient

Pat 2 per day is 200%.  It says to take 1 per day on the package so if she is taking 2, she is already doubling up.

Ok, if that's the case then it is fine. The multivit I have requires you to take 2, not 1, as a daily dose. If 1 pill is 100% of the daily dose, then of course she only needs 2. I just meant to draw attention to the fact that some multivits are only 100% of the daily dose if you take 2, and would therefore need 4 post-op.

The pharmacy beside Humber sells the Bariatric Advantage vitamins. I just bought the Calcium(270 chewable) and a bottle of MVI and it costs me $111.

They don't have samples. I like the Calcium - wild cherry flavor

If you go to the Celebrate vitamin website (google it) they have free sample packs whi*****lude the different vitamins and different flavours. They are pretty quick in sending them out
