Councelling in SW Ontario

Ok - I have passed my psych exam so no issues there!  However, I was thinking that this journey will bring up all kinds of stuff that probably needs to be dealt with.   All that nasty stuff that you bury because you don't have time or arn't willing to process.  All that stuff that contributes to how I abuse myself with food.

Anyone know of a councellor that deals with food and weight loss issues in the SW Ontario area?

I don't see why the person associated with your exam could not help you, but I am sure if they cannot then they could recommend a good psychologist. I do recommend a psychologist because the actually talk and listen, psychiatrists tend to want to prescribe medications.

I know I have a good psychologist and she allows me to come and talk when I need her.

when you do look for a counsellor, look for one who does cognitive behavioural therapy. That works best with weight loss issues.

I don't know if Tillsonburg or Woodstock have CBT classes but London does and they have a great program there.  Ask your family doctor to refer you to a psychologist that will be covered under OHIP.

Thanks Bulldog - but Oakville is almost 2 hrs away for me - so probably not feasible on a regular basis - although - if the appts are only once a month or so wouldn't be too bad.  I will let you know if I need her name.....
