Ulcers????
Hi, I am not sure if I have an ulcer or not. I have this pouch/stomach pain (more like cramping) every day off and on. It doesn't seem to matter what I eat or if I even eat anything. I wake up in the morning feeling great and 30 minutes later before I eat or drink anything I have this pain that gravitates to my back. I can't pinpoint the pain other than it's right across my upper abdomen and across the same area in my back. The only thing that helps it, is to eat something which only helps for a little while then it comes back. My protein shakes seem to help a lot and sometimes the pain does not come bac****il the next day after having a shake.
I have tried eliminating different foods from my diet and now know it is not food related.
I have my 3 month follow up appointments in a week so will talk to them about it.
Anybody experience this or any comments or suggestions?

I think your right prevacid might be the answer.
You can also buy zantac (ranitidine) over the counter-its on sale this week at costco-it is an acid reducer and will help with the reflux as well. You can take 1 tab twice a day if you need
Personally I would not wait to see my MD I would get some zantac and start at least 1 tab a day. You can also buy at walmart-best prices-the generic works just as well as the name brand and it is cheaper

To me it sounds more like a gall bladder type issue than reflux. Note that I am not a medical professional though. But if it is an ulcer/reflux proton pump inhibitors such as Prevacid, Pantaloc, Pariet, Omeprazole, Nexium etc will help cure it, while histamine2s like Zantac only provide symptom relief. My point being; go see your doctor.
Hi,
I had an ulcer at about 6 months post op. I was put on prevacid for a fe months, came off of it and then the pain came back. I went for a scope and they confirmed that Yes I definatley had an ulcer. I was put back on prevacid and sulcrate for a few months. I just went for a scope last week and to my surprise the ulcer is now gone. I am back on prevacid though because I do have some inflammation down there. Doctor said he thinks I produce too much stomach acid. I may have to be on prevacid indefinatley. He said it is very common. I am just happy the ulcer is gone. Good Luck

It really could be any number of things, from lactose intolerance (lots of people develop this post-op) to an ulcer, to a bowel problem. My concern is that it gravitates. How severe is the pain? If it goes beyond a 5/10, I would go straight to emerg, and don't forget to tell them that you're post-WLS. Good luck, I hope it's something minor and easy to treat.
Hi Karen,
I completely stopped eating all dairy for about 2 weeks because my first thought was I might becoming lactose intolerant but still had the same pain every day. I don't seem to have any problems with my bowels i.e. I am not constipated. I had an app't with my GP this morning and he thinks I am probably producing too much acid and gave me a perscription for Prevacid. I have followup app'ts in 1 week with TWH and will discuss with them. I figure if the pain has gone away by then, then the Prevacid is working and that is all it was. The pain is mild to moderate but it feels more like cramping and is very uncomfortable especially when I am at work. Hopefully this works!
Thanks.
