I would like to know, for those of you who got sleeved, can you NOT take a supplement, or shakes, or protein powder?  Can you make it without these?  I really would like to eat only natural food, non processed food

as long as you can meet your protein goals there is no need to have shakes... the shakes make it easier to get the protein in.

as for other supplments like vits and minerals I cant comment

 Hi there Karine,

Being sleeved means that approx. 85% of your stomach is removed.  You function the same as before, but get full faster.  You can have shakes, supplements, anything you want to.  I love it!

ETA

All centres are different some highly recommend shakes post op some don't want you to have them.  I'm with you in that I try to eat only natural food and rarely use protein powder as I get enough
protein naturally, but in the beginning to get enough protein in, I added powdered protein to my milk that I put in my coffee.

I hope this helps!

The reason I am asking is that after a week of not taking protein supps, I am more and more tired, body aching.

I have no clue if it's related, but other than that I feel fine.

Anyway, today I took one protein supplement, it was gross hahaha!  But I guess I will find ways to add it to my daily meals!

Today, I was at about 42g of protein.

I had another question for you (by the way thanks for taking the time to answer me!!!):  was do I retain SO much water in my legs.  The more I drink, the more I retain.  I now drink abuot 1 1/2 liter of water

Anybody has a clue, or a similar experience???  And I do not eat salt AT ALL, and I am WAY below the maximum recommended a day.

I'm sure others will say the same thing but 42 grams of protein isn't enough.  My food booklet says at least 60 grams but up to 90 grams a day.  If you are able to drink 1 1/2 litres of water post op then you can having enough protein through liquids.

I was eating a lot of cottage cheese and greek yoghurt when I was at your stage.

Not sure about retaining water but I know the IV causes a lot of water build up and it takes a while for your body to absorb it.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi

Thanks for the response.

Yes I know I am not havng enough protein.  My booklet says 50-70.  I am 1 week post up.  I wanted to get to it without protein supplement, but the highest I can go is 25-30g.  So yesterday I added one supplement, and got 42.  Today I will add more supplement.

But can it be the lack protein that is causing me body aching and tiredness?  I went for a walk yesterday, a slow pace walk with my 4 yo, and it drained me completely, plus I had muscle pain in my legs, hips ans neck from holdig my really light wallet, unbeleivable!

Your body needs protein to heal and don't forget you just had major surgery a week ago. You are likely just tired from the surgery still and the more protein you consume the quicker you heal and usually the better you feel. At 1 week post op, I would be taking protein supplements as you likely can't eat much yet. Fluid retention could be caused by a lot of things but 1.5 litres of water per day is not a lot and water helps reduce retention not add to it. Just give it time.

Hi Karine!

Just going up and down the stairs leaves me exhausted. I've been using the protein shakes from Costco (Premier) with 160 calories, 5 carbs and 30 grams of protein. They taste fine to me, but even though I'm getting about 100 grams of protein a day, I'm still exhausted from the smallest thing.

Hang in there; hopefully we'll get our energy back soon.
