Sugarless Gum Addiction
Okay, folks. Let's get this transfer addiction out in the open...has anyone else become a gum chewing addict? I swear that I am going to develop extra jaw muscles I chew so much. ....And, yes, even though I thought that sugar free gum was a no-no post-op, I checked with the dietician when I met her a couple of weeks ago and she said its fine. Caffeine is okay, too. Whew, because I sure enjoy a cup of caffeinated tea when I get a chance. Me and my vices! lol

I can't chew gum. I'm embarassed to say, it gives me sore jaw muscles. LOL! How out of shape is that??!! Not that I need another vice.

I am a chewing gum addict too. I have heard some people warn of staying away from gum, because of the possibility of swallowing it and it getting stuck. I have never had that problem, before or after surgery, I have never swallowed gum in my life. I chew gum all the time, sugarless of course. I go through at least a pack a day or more. I guess my vice could be worse...

I'm addicted to SF gum too.

Hi there
Funny, I have not chewed one piece of gum since surgery Aug 2005 because they told me if I accidentally swallowed it(there are people on this board who will say that you can't "accidentally" swallow gum LOL), and it gets stuck over the stoma that it may have to be surgically removed
I was never much of a gum chewer anyway LOL.........
Happy chewing..................... don't swallow :)

I did accidentally swallow, believe it or not! I was chewing gum and tilted back in a slight recline on an office chair while I talked with a coworker. She said something that made me laugh and down the gum went! I was completely freaked out....but nothing happened and all is fine. But now I'm more careful about reclining on those office chairs while chewing gum and listening to funny stories at the same time.
