Some Advice

Hello friends:

Just wanted to hear what you folks think I might do about something.

One my way back from the mailbox today (grumbling under my breath that my LETTER hadn't come), I realized that my husband and I will be moving in about 5 months when we take possession of our new home.  We aren't moving all that far...from Oakville to Ancaster.  When I came home I checked the registry and plugged my new postal code in and realized that I would be in another catchment area by the time I would be in the process of preparing for WLS.   Now, my postal code would have me going to TWH, in May it would have me going to St Joes. Hamilton.

So...my question is....should I wait until my letter comes and then ask for a transfer?   Should I just continue with the hospital I am assigned to or would changing addresses make me not eligable?  Should I have my Dr. revise my referral with my new address noted and the date I will be moving?  Any other ideas?

Why can't it just be simple....jeeeze!!

Ciao,

Kim

If you are currently in the Toronto catchment area then try to stay there.  It moves the fastest.

You have nothing to tell anybody until you actually move.  And then only if people ask.

Can you route your WLS mail through a Toronto area friend/family after the move?

You can probably stay at TWH.  There are people from all over the place going through there, so I don't think they'd even know that Ancaster was out of their area.

Have you called TWH yet to check in with them?  I did, and they actually booked my orientation right then over the phone!  I was just super nice, and said that I wanted to check in as I had a trip coming up (which was true - we were off to Florida for a week in March).  It is worth a shot - the worse they can say is wait for your letter!  The number I called is 416 603-5800 ext. 6145, Press 3.  Others have used ext. 2863 with success.  Don't bother leaving a message - keep trying until you get someone.

Good luck!

I would tell them once I have moved. You will need to let them know that you moved because you have to give a change of address to OHIP. Good Luck

Doesn't Canada Post keep rerouting your mail after you move for 6 months anyhow?

Toronto moves faster from what I have seen.

I would contact the registry only once you move to advise them of the new address, but request to stay at TWH since by then you will likely already be well through the process. I'm sure it won't be a problem if you've already started at TWH.

I had OHIP approved Duodenal Switch surgery with Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Hamilton on March 7th, 2012. Want more information on the DS in Ontario? Send me a private message!

Canada Post will forward all mail for up to 6 months for the cost of about $32-well worth it so you get all your mail!!!
