4 weeks post op and not doing good:(
I researched a lot but still feel kind of lost at the a amount of food I should be having on the 4th week and am I still supposed to have 30mls every 15 mins? I have always been obese since childhood and I realize I have a bad food addiction but I really thought this wls would help me at least get a start to a new life of healthiness. I don't want my children growing up with a couch potatoe mom! Has anyone had this experience? Why am I not getting full fast like everyone else seems to be? I'd really like some advice/encouragement . Thank you for reading Stop reading now, if you want me just to say "there there, it'll be ok".
Keep reading if you want the truth.
1. Stop taking bites of things. STOP. Did you have this major surgery because you want to stay where you are? Why are you pushing limits this early out??? Did you have your insides rearranged so that you could stay obese??? If so, continue what you're doing.
2. Eat by the book and by the clock, not by what you think you can tolerate. Read the guidelines given to you by your WLS centre, and follow them like they came down from fricking God himself. During the surgery, they cut nerves in your stomach (not purposely, its what happens when they make the incisions and move things around). You may not feel full or hungry for quite some time, WHICH IS WHY ITS SO FREAKING IMPORTANT TO FOLLOW THE RULES!!!!!!
3. This surgery IS a waste of time, if you choose for it to be, and right now, it sounds like you're choosing that path.
THIS IS YOUR CHOICE. DO WITH IT WHAT YOU WILL, BUT DON'T WHINE WHEN IT DOESN'T WORK, IF YOU'RE MAKING LOUSY CHOICES!!!
Call the social worker, and the dietitian at your WLS centre, and get in to see them. Be honest about what you're doing, and ask for help.
Love your answers Monica :)
To add I'm not sure why you need to have 30 ml every 30 minutes 4 weeks out. At 4 weeks you're supposed to be getting into a routine of 3 meals and 2-3 snacks. That will fill you up so you don't 'feel hungry' and thus be willing to eat.
One thing Monica didn't add which is so true is that the surgery doesn't fix your brain. It is hard work and probably much harder then any other weight loss program you've ever tried.
Thank you for joining this site and looking for support. You are making a good decision with this forum.

I appreciate your honesty and I really don't want to fail at this. I do realize this is my fault and I'm not doing everything I am supposed to but please someone help me understand what exactly I'm supposed to be doing at week 4? I'm supposed to be on minced food which to my knowledge is finely chopped food? How much am I supposed to be eating and how often? This is embarrassing to admit all of this and to seem so stupid but I Do NOT want to continue wasting this surgery. I'm not looking for a sympathy party,I really just want help!
You want to avoid as much simple carbs as possible... So stay away from pasta and breading... Nothing deep fried and avoid refined sugar!
Protien first always and don't drink 30 min before a meal or 30 min after your meal!
Hope this helps

I really want to help then. What does the literature say that you got from the dietitian? Perhaps you need to make an appointment with the dietitian and ask her to write it out for you, step by step. Please don't sabotage yourself. Get yourself to a support group. Find someone at your stage, or close to your stage, and figure out what they're doing. Other people have given you information about how often to eat. It's been too far for me, i can't add to that. I just know that you've GOT to get your head in the game. Before its too late.

wonderful and courageous you did put the posting, but you NEED to get with the program. Your pouch will stretch quickly again and then you will not do well at all.
As Monica was saying - get in contact with the SW and the nut at your Centre right away.
Also be accountable for what you eat. Right now you need 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day as outlines in the handouts that you received. NOT more. Use myfitnesspal.com and write down "everything" you eat. And do not guess - weigh it all.
You can still turn yourself around but you need to do it now - and you will need help
I know you can do it - but you need to take yourself seriously! NO more little bites from your kids plates - you are sabotaging yourself AND your kids.
Pull your socks up girl and make those calls. We all will be here for you - but YOU need to do the work
They cut nerves you can't trust your body to tell you if you are full or hungry right now! Measure everything!!
Perhaps eat YOUR food before you prepare the kids food so you are not hungry for theirs!
You CAN and WILL succeed but you have to follow the rules and if you can't then you NEED to seek help! That is what your center is there for!!
Stick around...don't get offended by people and what they say...everyone wants to see you successful! And sometimes we really need the kick in the ass!

Since Monica already covered the hard stuff I get to say this:
You are awesome for speaking up, an admitting where you are struggling. You are absolutely capable of making this work by getting back on track.
The reason I am saying it this way is... Instead of saying you are doing this and think it is fine... You are asking for advice, help and expressing your concerns about your own actions. It's not an easy road but you can do it!
