Ten Days Out
Well I am 10 days out from my surgery and my scales are acting up again. I can step on them 3 times in a row and get weights that are 10 lbs apart. Guess I will have to break down and buy new scales finally. I am going to the dr this week so can get weighed there and then 11 - 12 days later I go back to see the RN and RD. Then see the surgeon 11- 12 days after that. In some ways I am tempted to wait it out so I will be surprised at my weight loss.
On another note I am really surprised at the difference in diets depending on where you had your surgery. For RNY surgery, those of us who had surgery in Guelph are not allowed anything but clear fluids for the first two weeks. Then full fluids for the next two weeks. We can't have beef or por****il 6 months out. Others who had surgery elsewhere can have anythung they want pretty much as long as it is pureed . Some don't even need it pureed. Just seems strange to me that there is so many different food rules for the same surgery.
Well, not really confusing - you just have to do as you are told by your clinic and not worry so much what everyone else is doing. Not meant to be "mean" by the way.
I would imagine that, since this is an on-going study of the efficacy of WLS in treating obesity, it would make sense that they change it up here and there to see what works better and less better.
I think we all have to remember that the availability of this surgery and the existence of the "Centres of Excellence" is still a part of an "experiment" if you will and that, years down the road, whether they are there or not will depend on their cost effectiveness, We all owe a debt of thanks to those who have gone before and a unique responsibility to those who are yet to come.
This is all about your life, don't sweat the small stuff - hang in there!
