Hagan and Klein up to their same old dirty tricks, promised VSG now only offering friend RNY
Like others have said, OHIP is no longer providing funding for OOC WLS surgery.
You seem to be personalizing this "up to their same old dirty tricks". Do you believe that this is something they're doing out of spite, for some reason? I can't fathom what reason they would have for doing this to spite people.
It's more likely that they've been told by the "powers that be who decide such things" to stick to RNY unless for a certain reason, because the Bariatric program has decided that RNY is the surgery of choice unless people fit certain criteria.

They have a long history of blocking access to RNY alternatives, notably DS and I personally know of at least one instance have denigrated a DS patient who were under their care with post op complications. They should not string along patients seeking VSG until the end of their many visit process only to pull the option. If they are RNY only make that clear and steer people to St. Joes if they cannot convince them that the RNY is a better choice for them.
So yes, I am personalizing this. I don't like these two individuals at all.

Oh I'm pretty good at coping with my anger but thanks for caring. As for not hurting them at all, I'd say the more people know about the unethical ways they seem to go about things, the better choices people can make about possibly deciding not to go there.
Of course there is the sad fact that a likely majority of people getting RNY cannot name the other WLS options and probably over a third don't know what RNY is other than the generic gastric bypass term. I base these estimates on my interactions with this OH community over a several years long period. Perhaps things have changed over the last 4 years but I doubt it.
Sadly ignorance isn't always bliss.

but what is their (Hagen and Klein's) personal gain? how do they benefit from people getting one surgery over another? If they don't care about their patients, then they're choosing to do the RNY over VSG because they're getting something out of it, not because they want to hurt or hinder as many people as they can.

I find it very interesting how some patients seem to know what's best for themselves without the benefit of medical training or years of experience with bariatric surgeries and aftercare.
Not saying the doctors are "Gods in white coats" - just that a preference is not necessarily what is best for you.
Perhaps a second opinion from a different clinic might be a more informed way to go?
DS doctors will tell you DS is the best, VSG, LapBand, RNY distal or proximal, each of these surgeons who specialize doing these different WLS options will claim that their surgery is the best. It is up to the patient to study all the options out there and the different pros and cons since they will be the ones living with the choice the rest of their lives. For docs the operation is just another time slot in the OR and another paycheck in the bank, not a lifelong commitment.

Thanks everyone for the valuable input. I've given the link to this forum to my friend and I'm going to recommend having her visit St. Joes in Hamilton. If the DS (in my obviously biased opinion the best WLS) is an option there and can be argued for due to acid reflux than perhaps that would be a good direction for her to begin to investigate.

Your friend will have to request through HRRH or bariatric registry that her file be transferred to Hamilton for second opinion she just can not visit them. Hamilton also has to accept her transfer.
