Ok nurse at Guelph Clinic gave me a card showing what was all needed to be done for my blood labs post op.

I had my blood work done last week, and they took 8 tubes of blood... is that sounding the right amount???

I was sure I read on here some place that it should be like 12 to 15??

Here is what is listed on the card....

CBC, INR, Lipid profile, HbA1C, Serum Iron, Transferrin Saturation, TIBC, Albumin, Calcium, ALT Magnesium, Creatinine, Phosphorus, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy, Vitamin B12.

Any info on this would be fantastic.

Thanks all

This is just an semi-educated guess...
Depending on the person's medical history and medical conditions, blood test requirements may vary. CBC is standard, and I can't imagine it NOT being ordered, as it gives them your white and red blood counts. They also need to know about your blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, blood clotting abilities, and vitamin absorption (especially iron).
Also, some labs can't perform all tests, so extra tubes are taken because they are being sent to different labs, or different parts of the same lab, whereas if they are doing it all in one place 1 tube can be used for multiple tests.

i'm sure they did all the things they wanted to do. Remember, although this is a standard surgery, everyone has an individual medical history, and the number of tubes has so much to do with your past health history, the location and functions of the particular lab you went to, etc etc etc. etc etc etc.
