Who gives us the doctors note stating how long we need to be off for recovery?

When do we get it?

I will have to give my work some kinda notice, I was hoping I would get it at my last appointment with Dr Hagen on Sept 16th if everything is okay and Im given a surgery date.

Can you guys share some of your experiences to I can have an idea how this goes.

I got the doctor's note as soon as they set the date.  It was the person who scheduled the surgery who e-mailed me the note.  That's how it worked in Ottawa anyway...

yup got the note at the 2nd surgeon's appointment... even though mine isn't till December lol - they will give it to you as soon as they schedule a date.  make sure you discuss how long you feel you need off at that appointment.

I don't know how they do it in Hamilton, but be sure to give yourself lots of time off.  I work in a nursing home, which is pretty heavy work, so I asked for, and got, 8 weeks off. Just be sure not to short-change yourself!

I went through St. Joes and they require you to follow up with your family doctor about the 2nd week after you have surgery.  Your family doctor determines when you will return to work and depends on your progress after surgery.  However, during the final process when you see the surgeon and your surgery is approved the normal notation is off work 4-6 weeks.  Initially my insurance company (GWL) required a form to be filled out by my family doctor and he estimated 6 weeks which was approved without a problem.

Depends on your benefit plan too. Mine called for getting note one week after surgery ( not before).  So I made an appt with my family dr in advance as part of my pre surgery planning.  Took my paperwork in and had them fill it in

I need mine before I go for surgery. My work needs to plan for who will take over my caseload while I am away, How long they will need to split my files, etc etc etc.

I will be HATED if I dont give them as much notice as possible. So if I have to do 4 weeks of OPTI, it would be great time to tell them when I do know.

I think Katiebear is the closest to my situation, we are at the same place so hopefully it will work out the same.
