Topic: FINALLY!

I finally received an orientation date! January 29th! I'm literally counting down the days!

I have been chasing this surgery for 4 years. I asked my family doctor twice to refer me to the network and he refused both times. The first time he referred me to Dr. Poon, but when I researched what he was about, it sounded like another diet program to fail at. I live quite far from their offices as well, so I never ended up attending. The second time, my doctor talked to me about depression and thought maybe I should try antidepressants to see if it would help me gain control of my habits and supress my appetite. I took Prozac for a few months before stopping because I didn't like the way they made me feel.

I had had my family doctor since birth and he retired in April 2018. I eventually decided to try the walk in clinic to see if I could get a referral from them in September 2018. Again, I got the whole Dr. Poon talk and the talk about nutrients and what I should be eating. At the end of the visit, he did agree to refer me to Bariatric Network, but a few weeks later when I followed up with his office, they informed me that he had actually referred me to Dr. Poon instead. I once again denied the referral. I'm sick of diets and it seems like a short term solution for a long term problem.

I FINALLY got an awesome new family doctor in October 2018 who agreed that the Bariatric Network sounded like a great opportunity for me based on my history. He agreed to refer me and did so November 9th. I was originally referred to TWH, but I called them to be redirected to Humber River because I liked the thought of just getting on and off the 401 for the journey to Toronto because it is about an hour away (with traffic).

I had called Humber to check on my file at the beginning of December just to make sure it had been successfully transferred, and it was. I waited anxiously for my package in the mail, but nothing. Two days ago, I decided to call the hospital again just to see if I had been assigned a date and the woman I spoke to was very friendly and offered to book me in for January 29th! She sent me my paperwork through email a few hours later.

I am so EXCITED! I know its a small step in the big picture of it all, but it's a step forward!! I have started keeping a journal to track some goals I'm working towards because I know I have some emotional eating issues and just eating out of habit when I'm not hungry. So far I haven't had any pop for 5 days, I've been working on getting 8 glasses of water a day, cutting back to one coffee a day (from 2-3), and upping my protein. I meal prepped on Sunday, which has been super helpful since I do have a 9 month old at home and that has been one of my excuses for a while. I've been talking to other post surgery patients and asking lots of questions, I've read books, I've read websites... I'm informed and super confident that this surgery will help me change my life!

Woo! That was long, sorry! But I'm too happy right now! Only 20 days to go!

Topic: Winter Activities!!!

Hey All....

I don't know about you, but I love being outdoors! Spring, summer and fall, I hike 3-5 times a week, climb Blue Mountain, swim, jog, etc and walk! I am sooooo active and love it so much! Then...winter comes....

As soon as the snow flies, activity for me changes for the winter months. This year I bought skates and snow shoes to help keep moving outside and try to embrace the (dreaded) winter months....it doesn't help that since my 225lb weight loss, I am now ALWAYS cold in the winter. I even joined the local gym this year, but cancelled my membership already....argh!

What do you do when seasons change? What keeps you going through the winter?

Thanks All!

Topic: RE: Surgery Day tomorrow!

Hope all went well! I so remember day 1 and 2 and 3 and etc.... so overwelming as I re learned how to eat. Felt pressure but take the time to heal well and focus on yourself. This is the time to be super selfish and put yourself first. Cry if you need to. Blessings!

Topic: RE: What are you eating/doing today -- Monday?

Hello!

I've been needing to reach out for support and thought I'd check back in here at the forum to see what everyone is eating, etc. I personally have allowed myself to eat things I wasn't eating while I was losing weight and have had some gain which scares me. I can see that you 3 are all around 3 years out. I am also. I've been reading your menu's for the day... If you feel comfortable, would any one of you mind adding the amounts of food you are eating?

Thank you!

All my life I have only gained or lost weight and now that I am at my goal (for the past 2 years), I am finding maintenance super challenging.

I had my RNY Dec 2015 and lost 225lbs.

Good call on staying home Meg. I slid right past the on ramp to the 401 this morning so had to take an alternate route to the gym. Then my alternate route had a road closure so I detoured again. By that time I'm thinking I should have stayed home. With this crazy weather the gym was the busiest I've seen in weeks. And I thought I was the only crazy one out this morning. Anyway, I did 15 kms on the bike this morning and felt great! Now for a long day at work. We had more snow at my house than they have here at work so it will be difficult to gauge later what my drive home will be like.

Yesterday, we all got a kick in the teeth here at work. We were due to get a 3.25% increase on January 1st. Because the Province MIGHT cut funding to municipalities the City has chopped our raise to 1.5%. Not impressed.

2 yrs 8+ mos out

b - 1/2 everything bagel, 1 egg, 1 slice double cheddar

S - 1 devilled egg (whole egg), raspberries

L - taco salad

S - deli turkey, cheese, pickles

D - sauteed chicken with peppers and onions, sour cream and cheese

Have a great day!

Good morning :)

Seems like the roads might be a bit slippery here today so I moved my appointment to Monday and we will stay home. Yesterday I ended up making applesauce with a bunch of apples that were running out of time. I used the instant pot but I forgot to lock the vent. My house ended up smelling delicious lol. I gave some to the little nugget and she really seemed to enjoy it. We are still working on getting her calories up so I'm really happy she seemed to like it. I will try mixing some in her cereal today.

QOTD: does any food give you the heebie-jeebies? I cannot stomach the thought of pureed meat. I just can't imagine what that texture would be like. I'm also squeamish about oysters.

Post-op three years and ten months.

Breakfast - almonds, protein shake

Snack - egg, toast

Lunch - cheese, pepperettes

Snack - Greek yogurt and blueberries

Dinner - chili -- DH actually had to open the window last night... Let's just say we will all be happy when the chili is gone.

Snack - pudding

All water and vits.
