11 MONTHS LATER...

.

Hi Sleever Friends,

I started my VSG with my weight almost 350lbs...I'm surposed to do a 2 step surgery, VSG than RNY..it's to risky to do RNY when my BMI is very high. Now almost 1 year, lost alot gained a little and lost somemore till my Doctor KIV me another 3 months,b4 that he said 2 months on O.P.T.I.F.A.S.T Beverage, because I dont take CARBS..No rice-noodles-bread-pasta..
After 2 months , I came back to see my Surgeon and I've lost more than 9 Lbs and he said as long as I keep losing weight RNY will be KIV..Now he gave me 3 months supply of that beverage and if I dont lose any in Sept I go for RNY..

Any opinion or advice, why so many people said RNY is not as good as VSG, I've seen friends who had RNY lost so much..and I want that too..

Please advice by looking at the above photo ...

This is today MAY 9TH 11,

Do I need RNY if yes why if No why?

First what does KIV stand for?

I wouldn't get the RnY unless my life depended on it.  If I ever felt I needed a surgery that malaborbed I would get the DS.

Hi,

What is mean KIV? KIV is the abbreviation for 'Keep in view'. It means to keep it for later or future use.

My Surgeon wrote on my case note as KIV for RNY..if during GA..and during the Surgery it is easier to do RNY he will do it or else he will do the Sleeve than when I've lost some weight than will go for RNY.

My Hypertension is gone, the problem is now my endo Doctor is monitoring my fasting blood test on my Sugar,he suspected I might prone to get it..on the border line..

So usually for diebitiecs patient they will highly recommended for RNY.

Thanks for responding..you r doing great !!

I'm not sure whether anyone here can tell you if you "need RNY". That's a personal decision. By most WLS statistics, you are a success.

If you need to absolutely get the last 50 or so lbs off immediately because of health reasons, then maybe. But, you still have a good tool for restriction that should help you get to your goal. Yes, it will be more work, but you have to ask yourself if it's really going to be worth another, in this case risky, surgery. Me personally? I don't think it's worth it, but it's not my life.

Do the optifast, give it your best shot, try and kick up the exercise, and see what happens. You have done very very well, I'm sure you can keep going without risking another surgery.

Congrats on your success and you look awesome!!

Thanks for responding,

If you are refering about excercise, I think some of them here knew well enough about my low intake intense workout at the Gym..4x aweek each time 3hours, always cycling to the Supermarket or to the train station.

On average each time at the Gym I will burned around 1000 calories..I started cycling after 2 weeks of my op and on the 3rd week Im hitting to enrol at the Gym, I did cross trainner, cycling, threadmill, rowing, stepper plus lap pull down..legs press and a few more..till I crack my ribs with lap pull down of 80lbs 20 infront 20 behind..I've to stay a week in hospital and in Nov I did spin cycle and my slipped disc hurt badly, even with my lumber corset on all the time during my workout..I'm crazy with excercise than eating..so optifast is a replacement meal..

As I commented above..you can read it why I MIGHT need RNY.

When my Sureon said NO means NO..thats the reason he hold on and monitor my weight lost as to him Im doing awesome and I'm a role model on WLS in that Hospital..

Just need some opinion from others..

Good luck to u.

First off congrats on the 133 lbs gone, that is AMAZING girl!!

With only 50 lbs left to lose I most certainly wouldn't get it but that's just me. I wouldn't get it at my highest weight either. I know a lot if not most Drs believe heavily in the RNY. There are studies that show it is the most effective in keeping weight off. It's why your Dr is probably geared for continuing on with it even though you're so close to goal. However your Dr cant make you do anything you don't want to, so do some intense research on line about RNY and get all the pros and cons so that you can decide for yourself what you truly want to do. The sleeve 'could' get a little trickier down the road with maintenance so you best make sure you are ready to be accountable for your habits if you opt out of the second part of your surgery. Good luck, I hope it all works out for the best for you.

Thanks,

My Doctor is not forcing me to do it..that is why he been giving me 2 months and 3 months to see if I can loss and achieve my goal weight AND he will do tummy tuck for me as he did mentioned earlier when I lost so much.

He even told me..it is normal to be on stall for a few months and than move again,

As I responded the above comments, excercise is not a big issue for me..I can die without doing it..
Cycling...around neighbourhood and mall..I even just bought a better mountain bike for racing..

When I'm out the whole day..my meal is OPTIFAST each packet around 160calories twice a day and I dont go above 500 calories a day yet burned on average 1000 calories each workout..

I need some advice here although the decision is mine and my doctor actually want me to stick with VSG alone..

Dearest..Thanks for sharing..

Maybe with advices here will help and kill my fear, anyway my Doctor is not rushing me for RNY..is only KIV..They cant do RNY due to my high BMI so he proceed to VSG and if I can loss more RNY will not happen that was the reason he gave me 2 months plus optifast as i dont take CARBS and after 2 months when time to see him I've lost 9lbs and I was ready for RNY,but he said if I can lose 9lbs in 2 months..its good and he want to try me for 3 months if i can loss than RNY will not going to happen..

As a Bariatric role model in that Hospital , I pay for little and the rest bare by the hospital..even optifast 1 box with 7 sachet twice a day..x 3 months cost about 600 dollar..before that 2 months close to 500 dollar...my job is sweat and rock my sleeve at the Gym....till now..

I wish you good luck..rock ur sleeve ..a rock and roll !! xoxo

My doctor says the sleeve was developed to be a pre-cursor to RNY surgeries for very obese people, but that they are finding we are doing as well at weight loss without it if given time and following the program.  He suggested that unless I start gaining again, or cannot get my BMI down to a level below obese in a 2 year period, there is no call for another surgery.

Bottom line, only you can know what's right for you, but the rest are right; do your homework and then decide if you need another surgery, or if you can be healthy without it.
You've come so far, with only 50 lbs to go.  Do you think you can do it using your sleeve tool?

Thanks for sharing, and good health to you.

I don't see any reason you can't lose more with a sleeve although it might be that your weight loss is just going to be a lot slower for these last 50 pounds. Look at my latest posts as I gave a lot of ideas on what has helped me in my recent post about losing 150 pounds in 9 months. I also have a lot of recipes on my profile that I have found really helpful.
