So we went to dinner last night with my Mother in law and Brother in law. I have not seen my Brother in law since last December, when I weighed about 230. He is quiet, never very talkative, he comes into dinner late and sit down at the table. I can tell he looks a tad perplexed. He looks at me again and again. This goes on for about 10 minutes. He then says "Jennifer is that you?" "Yes" I respond. He then goes on to say "Wow, I didn't know it was you. Your face went from like a 5 to a 9." What the **** !?!?!?!?! Who says that **** I kind of smiled and grimaced all at once and said, "Ya I guess the weight made a big difference in my facial features." and then we all moved on with conversation as it is obviously awkward.
Later that night I get a text from him, hes apologetic and feels pretty stupid. He said He never meant to imply I was unattractive before and he is sorry it came out wrong. I told him it wasn't a big deal and that people seem to have a hard time knowing what to say so I get it.
Even so it was embarrassing and I wanted to kick him in the face... right there at Red Robin for all to see.

BIL has some limited social skills. You shocked the poor guy into stupidity. He tried a compliment and really messed it up. I would have been embarassed too. Don't let it get you down. You know you've changed a lot. You were pretty in the befores and you are beautiful now. Just keep celebrating yourself!

So sorry that happened to you Jen. Some people can really be insensitive. At least he did seem to realize that he should have never said something so stupid. Most people would never see that, let alone call and say they were sorry. I would have paid to see you kick him in the middle of Red Robin tho....LOL

At least he "got it" and apologized. Im not sure if its sweet or creepy that your BIL thinks you went from a 5 to a 9....almost sounds like a horrible pick up line.

I've only lost 40lbs and I already have douchewad comments coming at me. I understand you don't wanna sound like a jackass mentioning weight when you're not sure that's it, but avoiding sounding like jackasses, usuallys makes them look like douchebags. Also most men are suffer from foot in mouth syndrome.

Yah.... kinda dumb....

But we men's can/will be stupid at times.....happened to me "once"

I'm gonna stick up for dude......

- In guy thinking (translation) he was "thinking" dang...... She is cute, pretty, HOT! (was a compliment that went wrong)

- He did have the knards to apologize.......(translation....he thought about it and realized he ****** up)

It is winter......a nine with a little sun can be a ten really easy.....

Another way to get the last point doesn't happen at a Red Robin with family !!!.........(I couldn't get myself to say what I'm really thinking.....see how smart/dumb I am !!!!)

Meh, I'd find it hard to get all worked up about that. The guy was searching for words and ended up blurting out what he was thnking before he was able to filter it. Take it for what it was, a compliment. I mean really, I am not so delusional to think I look as good now at 328 as I will at 228 or even 128.

I have heard since my weight loss many times "OMG- you look so good! Not that you didn't look good before just now..." I never get mad because you know what??? I did look awful- I was NOT attractive-I was severly obese and I understand why men were not attracted to me and how un-healthy and gross I was. And I am proud to know I WILL NEVER be that sad- un-attractive mess that I was ever again.

That's just how I feel about it- everyone is different I can understand how that can be hurtful.
