Do you ever chew sugar-free gum?

At my Centre they don't reccomend chewing gum because they say it creates gas in the stomach but most people at my Centre (like probably 98%) get the RNY.

Chewing gum gives me terrible gas and causes me to have stomach pains. I am 2 months out, so maybe with time it will get better. I've always had trouble with air in the tum though.

I chew gum & I'm 7 months out. But I can only chew for about 10-15 minutes, then I tend to get minor tummy pains too from the extra air.

Huh...  Before surgery I chewed gum every day.  I always had gum especially after lunch.  I am only 9 days out of surgery but my doc said no gum for a while just in case of accidental swallow.  Yeah I can understand how that would be bad since someone would have to go in and get it out.  But reading all the comments about chewing and gas etc makes sense too.  That was something I hadn't thought of and now I will have to be mindful of once I'm able to chew gum again.  Just goes to show how you find useful information on here that you didn't even know you were looking for!!!   Thanks everyone :)

Certain gums have sugar alcohols and give me terrible gas. It also makes me hungry. I only chew it to freshen my breath.

I was told prior to surgery that gum chewing in not allowed because it causes gas and may cause stretching so months before my surgery I stopped chewing because I Love chewing gum I would buy 2 or 3 packs at a time it was like my cigarette LOL so a year has gone by without any gum chewing and I just started back up a few days ago. I have noticed that my tummy gets a little agitated but I m hoping that it will pass because I really crave it and it helps me to keep from munching on other things that I shouldn't.
