my fitness pal question

So I'm 3 weeks out today and doing well so far! I started using myfitnesspal about a week or so ago...and I have a question.

I have had a few days - and today is turning out to be another one - where my net calories (including exercise) is in the negative. I am only taking in about 500-700 calories per day...but I've been walking a lot. For example, on saturday I walked 2.5 miles and then I mowed the lawn for 30 minutes later that night. With my total calorie intake minus the exercise calories, my balance was -110 calories. RIght now I am -153 calories for today...I'm sure I'll make that up, but I feel like I might have to skip walking again tonight with a friend.

Anyhow, is it okay to have the negative balance? I was so hungry (for reals hungry) on Saturday night that I ate an extra yogurt. I've noticed that I'm hungrier (probably makes sense) on these kind of days...but I don't know what to do about that...I need a plan or I'll find myself taking a nip or two of my kids' snacks or something...I don't want to get into a grazing pattern like that. I also don't want to eat too much and undo or stretch my healing tummy out or anything.

What do you do about the exercise calories...or do you even pay attention to that? I'm still pretty early out and mostly on mushies/soft foods and I'm not able to eat more than a couple tablespoons or so at a time...about 7-8 tsp. of food.

Any tips on this?

MFP is a great site, but it wasn't constructed for WLS users.  I keep track of the exercise, just to give me an idea of what I'm doing, but I don't worry about the negative calories or the fact that it tells me every.single.day that I'm not getting enough calories.  Use it to track, but stick to your plan.

I use it to track my cals and my exercise but dont fear the negative calories. Stay on your plan that your Dr has instructed you and you will be ok.

I have found some great VSG support on MFP actually :) it is a handy tool to have

Don't worry about the negative calories - don't try and eat them because you feel like you should. Listen to the others and stick to your plan. (later on down the road you might be running your butt off to get it from red to black :-p)
