Probably a silly quesstion
ok so I'm a week post op and I feel great no nausea, no vomiting, no dumping and I've reached my protein goal everyday since I got home (last Wednesday 11/19). Now for the silly question...if I'm feeling great and have had no issues is it ok to progress my diet from liquids?
While it is good that you feel great, that doesn't mean you should speed up your diet progression. The steps are there to protect your healing stomach that was just cut open and is raw and healing. Follow your doctors orders. They are there for a reason and they are the ones that went to medical school.
I echo Karik's comments. Do not progress faster than the guidelines provided to you. Your nerves and insides are still healing at even 1 month out. Progressing ahead with out surgeon permission could/may do some damage that you don't think would happen. Be happy you are feeling great. It means that you are tolerating what you should be...it doesn't mean you can advance ahead.
Follow your doctor's plan. Just because you feel great doesn't mean that you're not still healing.

No questions are silly on this blog. You definitely want permission from your doctor. My surgery is next week and I had a very good visit with my surgeon last week. She showed me exactly what happens during surgery. When they remove more than 1/2 our stomach, they also have to re-tag our new small stomach to the intestines and splean. Of course this is coming from my doctor, all surgeons operate differently. But, there is still MUCH healing going on inside of you, even though you feel great!
