Topic: 15 yrs post op

May 2022 makes 15 yrs post op for me. I haven't lost all that I wanted to, but I gained a lot recently while taking a new medication. I'm looking for current guidelines for eating. My surgeon is deceased. I now have a Medicare plan which doesn't cover a nutritionist. Feel a little lost and uninformed as to what are present day guidelines and preferable food and drinks. Would appreciate if someone can show me a (re)starting point or offer suggestions for nowaday guidelines.

I'm also a.dentla hygienist who is considering bariayric surgery. I'm sure I'll be able to get time off especially if I FMLA. My concerns are whether or not I'll be more prone to low blood sugar and feel like I'm going to faint, lower GI episodes while treating patients and low energy levels in a high pace environment. I'm scared that I'll feel horrible and in turn loose my job for not being able to perform. Did you experience any challenges similar to this?

first of all, your gain is not uncommon - AT ALL. Many of us (maybe most?) have a 10-20 lb rebound after hitting our lowest weight.

but if you want to lose it, I'd start tracking your food intake again if you're no longer doing that just to see how much you're eating. Do it for a good week or two since one day isn't going to tell you much. Take note of your average calorie intake (if you're using a tracker like MyFitnessPal (or whatever), it adds up your calories for you). Then try cutting out 100 calories a day for a couple of weeks. If nothing's happening on the scale, then cut a hundred more. Rinse and repeat until you start losing again.

if that doesn't appeal, go back to the way you were eating once you were a couple of months out of surgery. That is, protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then, if you have room, a small piece of fruit or whole-grain carb (if you're carb sensitive though, then maybe just stick to the protein and non-starchy vegetables)

or you could always try a program like WW (Weigh****chers) - there are several people on here who've been successful with that.

When I had regain the dietitian told me not to drink protein shakes. They are great for getting in protein and calories when we are not able to eat actual food after surgery. But we don't need the fast calories once we can eat real food.

you don?t have to use protein shakes if you hate them. Just be sure to eat protein forward.
meat, poultry, fish, pork, eggs, cottage cheese, cheese of all kinds.

don?t eat a lot of carbs products, even oatmeal, sweet potatoes or any whole wheat product or white flour. Non carbs begs Ste ok. Drink 64 plus oz of sugar free liq every day

Once we learn how to eat enough gain weight with a weight loss surgery sized stomach, restriction is not part of the picture anymore. Calorie counting is the only thing that will work. Figure 10 calories per day for each pound that you want to maintain. I want to weigh 136 so know that 1360 calories per day will keep me there. Add more and the regain starts. Exercise gives a tiny bit of help. Keto gives a 10% advantage. if i stayed on keto could add another 136 calories per day and not gain.

although my dietitian hates that I do this, I basically just calorie count now. I figured my maintenance range is about 1500-1700 per day (although this will be different for everyone), so as long as I stay in that range at least most of time, I'm good (I still track my food after (almost) seven years, so it's pretty easy to know how many calories I"m consuming)

Topic: RE: Anyone know Dr. Jalil Illan in Tijuana???

Hi. I was reading previous comments about Dr. Jalil Illan Fraijo, this is the reason I created an account. I connot find much information on him and when I looked up his credentials it won't come out on the Asocia****n Mexicana de Cirugía Plástica, Estética y Reconstructiva, A.C. Has anyone done any type of cosmetic surgery with Dr. Jalil Illan Fraijo and can tell me your experience and also how you feel now. Thank you
