Did anyone have their "last meal" the night before surgery?
Hello,
Just as I said in the heading, Did anyone have their "last meal" the night before surgery? I've been on this liquid diet for 8 days now and surgery is in 3, I go tomorrow to see the anethesioligist ? (spelling) and then come home for Tuesday and surgery on Wed. I would really love to eat something that is my favorite but I don't know if I should or if anyone else has done this. I'm having the laproscoptic (RNY) hopefully, they said there was a possiblity that they could have to do open after they start.
Let me know what you did? Thanks so much.............
Lisa

I had my "last supper" every night for abvout 3 weeks before surgery.
I ate everything yummy that I loved - pizza, wings, ribs, seafood, etc. I did not have a liquid pre-op diet, so I didn't break any rules. But I felt like I needed to get those foods in while I could. Now, you won't believe it, but I don't even like pizza or wings! I haven't tried ribs yet, but I still love that seafood, thank goodness! Best of luck to you with your surgery!

Lisa, two days before I started my liquid diet I picked up a few of my favorite foods.. A local place has great marinated steaks, I picked up some flavored shrimp and an assortment of other items. My friend came over to help me enjoy my 'last meal' well I have to tell you I grazed at some of the items but we never ate all that i bought, I probably drank more wine than anything. So when he went home the next day, he had a great care package of all the foods I would not be able to eat for some time. And I was happy that I didn't overdo it. (we never touched the steak.. )
I don't think once you are on the liquid diet it would be a good idea to have a last meal.. but that is just my opinion.

I didn't.
I had my last meal before the liquid diet began. I wouldn't chance it b/c the reason they're having you do liquids is to shrink your liver. They have to hold it out of the way during the surgery & the smaller it is -- the easier it is for them to do that. So I wouldn't.
Remember, it's not like you're never going to be able to eat something you'd eat for a 'last meal' again. You'll eat less and differently, but you can eat the stuff you ate before if you choose to. I do. Just a lesser amount and less often.
Best of luck w/the surgery.

To answer your question I had my last meal 2 nights before as I had to do the liquid diet the night before. My future hubby and I went to mexican and boy was that a mistake I had such heartburn and stomach pain I welcomed my surgery. If you can have a last meal take it easy and don't over do it. Best of luck! Christine (internetnut)

but I'll deal with it. I sure don't want my liver to enlarge right before surgery.
. I don't want my liver to enlarge so I'll be a good girl and stay on the liquids.
