I crave chips & salsa.  Especially from Chili's.  Anyone know if these are allowed even a little after RNY?

Yep.  Salsa is my trigger food.  Fresh salsa .... the kind that costs $4.50 for a small jar in the deli section ... that stuff is my absolute downfall in life.  Salsa on its own isn't bad, but because it comes with chips, it's bad.

Of all the food in the world, my only absolute-never-buy-ever-again food is salsa.  It's not allowed in the house.  If I'm out at a mexican restaurant, I'll allow myself 3 or 4 chips w/ salsa, but if it's in the house I have no control.  Unfortunately I've had to learn this the hard way.

Now... chocolate, cake, cookies - not a problem.  In fact, I have some chocolate on the counter that's been there for 3 months that will probably never get eaten.  Not a temptation.

So, yes you CAN eat chips and salsa.  Just be careful with it if it's a trigger food for you.

I'm eating supper right now.  I put two chicken breasts in a crock pot, smothered them with salsa, let it sit for 12 hrs while I worked, and shredded the chicken when i got home.  I put about 5 chips down, add some of my chicken mixture put a little 2% shredded cheese. and low fat sour cream.  It is sooooo good, and I get my craving settled, but with lots of protein:)  Try it out!

I didn't crave chili's, but i craved trader joe's chips early out. it got to addicting and i had to stop buying them. So the answer to your question is ...nope... they aren't allowed with RNY. Chips are addicting. and will lead to weight gain if you aren't careful..... plus the chips are negative calories and will never fill you up. When you are at Chili's..... Eat a good salad with protein meat on it. Skip the chips. tell your waiter NOT to bring the chips to your table. Or you will regret it in the next morning. Don't start eating chips. Its not worth it.

Thanks for the advice everyone!  My surgery is Monday and I am more excited than nervous.  More worried about the emotional withdrawl from my favorite foods than the pain.  I know it will all be worth it!!

Thanks for the recipie with the chicken and salsa - sounds wonderful!!  I am on the liquid diet now till surgery.  Can't wait to at least chew something again!

Get a few saltine crackers and have some salsa with those it should help your craving without jumping off the deep end with the chips. Put some cheese, fat free reried beans and some greek yogurt in place of sour cream and you will be packed with protein!

Try using Genisoy Crispy Dippers with the salsa. They remind me of Munchos potato chips but they are soy and have 7g of protein per serving and that is 19 dippers. I can only eat 1/2 serving. I am 4 1/2 months out.
