Nut question 2-3 months after RNY

Hello,

I have a call to my nut but I know I will get a quicker response on OH.  I am 6 weeks out from my RNY and can not recall what my daily calorie intake should be.  I know my protein but not calorie and Carb.  I am interested to know what it should be for someone 2 and three months out.

thanks!

Don't be surprised if you get a wide variety of responses based on the individual's surgeon's or NUT's plans. I was at just 300 calories a day the first 3 months, with 60% of that as protein. (No shakes). I did well on that, but it's truly too low for many people. Some people are given guidelines like 1/4 cup/meal, rather than considering caloric count, at your stage.

We were not told calorie amount, we were told what we might end up eating. We were told amount of protein, which that too varies by NUT.  Also told about 1/4 per meal at this point.  She just really stressed to eat protein first.

I have not had my surgery but my nut gave me my diet plan already it is give suggestions of foods not calaries or carbs. So it really depends on what your nut wants you to do.

Even when I was one year out - my nut and doc are very reluctant to talk about calories.  They checked my labs and my weight.  They told me that based on my labs - I should increase my proteins - and stay on vits as before.  As for calories - they were very uneasy to talk about.
As I do my own "study" I find that not all calories are the same.  400 cal from proteins or 400 cal from carbs will be processed differently by the body.
The importance what they told me is to avoid trigger foods - foods that may make me overeat, or gain weight... To make sure I get quality protein and veggies in a day.  That I move - exercise - and if I see gaining weight - limit my foods and If I start losing more that I want to lose - to increase.  To try to have "normal" life
I have skinny friends.  They have to watch what they eat.  They know what food make them gain weight.  If they gain more that they want to- they limit their foods and watch very carefully what they eat.  It is fun to see "normal" woman maintaining their weight , yet still having fun and eating variety of foods.  I.e one of them never eats desserts.  She knows she will gain weight if she starts - so she chooses not to eat them

I know that my caloric intake is app 1200-1400, low processed carbs, no white carbs, high proteins and relatively high fiber and fats.

I was told not to worry about the calories at this point because what I should be eating, though they may have a few more calories should be on my diet play. I think I am at about 500-700 a day.

Summa Bariatric Center's Nutritionist does not have you worry about calories yet. They want you to concentrate on protein intake. Do you come to the support meetings? If not it is January 27, at 6:30pm to 8:00pm. They are wonderful and full of great advice.  I love just seeing everyone and getting the support I need.
