I turned 41 today

It's my birthday and I'm having gastric bypass in about 6-8 weeks (exact date TBD). I've been thinking, hoping really, that this is the last year of my life that I'm going to be really, really fat. No idea what I'll weigh at my next birthday, but I do have a few things I'd like to accomplish when the pounds start melting away:

I want to go for a jog with my wife.

I want to chase my kids around the backyard without losing my breath.

I want to learn to play tennis.

I want to find a new job and/or career that I love, and not worry they'll turn me away becase I'm obese.

I want to feel better and be healthier.

Hope I'm not being too aspirational too soon, but these are what I keep thinking about.

Anyone else have similar thoughts prior to their surgery?

Hi Mike;

Sounds pretty normal to me...I can't think of anyone that wouldn't want to try for similar goals.

Looks like you've thought out a lot of things. I want to be able to where I can take my dog for a walk without pain in my back.

My birthday has come, whoop-dee-doo,
And now I'm a hundred and two.
They'll give me balloons,
And a bowl of stewed prunes,
Then I might fall asleep on the loo!

If it feels good, do it!  And if it smells good, eat it!

RNY on 05/13/10 with
I hope you have a wonderful birthday!!  I too are about to have RNY in a few weeks and have been thinking of all the things I want to be able to do, all the things I never have been able to do.

So many things, but here are a few.
I want to be able to walk with my husband on a walk instead of 6-10 feet behind.

I want to be able to prepare dinner and cook it without having to take many breaks to get it done.

I want to be able to go watch my husband's band play and be able to sit in any chair or stand if I want.

Having that list will give you something to work for. And way before next year, you'll be changing your use name because it will no longer fit you!

Happy Birthday Mike!!! Wow, you are 2 days older than me. My Birthday is tomorrow the 27th. I am glad I made the choice to get healthy when I did. Never dreamed I would be going through the things I have over the past year. I am just so glad I can start my life over at age 41 skinny.

Happy birthday Mike, even if I'm a day late.  didn't get on line yesterday.  I know your birthday next year will be so very different.  My goals are very similar as are all of us.
I want to go shopping and walking the malls without getting out of breath and my feet hurting.

I want to run around with my grandkids.

I want to swim a mile in an hour or less

I want to feel better and be healthier.

I want to be able to put my shoes and socks on (easily)

I want to be able to cross my legs even though I know its bad .

I can go on and on.    Cheers.
