Yogurt and dumping?

I'm only 9 days post op and this is basically the only thing other than protein shakes with any nutritional value that I am permitted to eat.

What kind is ok?

Pre-op I was eating greek yogurt but it doesn't taste right to me know and I can't seem to get it down.

I bought dannon light and fit and have been having 1 a day for the last 3 days but since I started that I have 1-2 hrs of diarhea after eating them (not immediately after eating them)- I am wondering if this is dumping syndrome?  or is it just because my tummy isn't use to anything non liquid?

Diarrhea is not dumping.  However, you might be lactose intolerant now.  That sometimes happens after surgery.

THanks Kelly, I wondered about lactose, I have avoided all other milk- used water for my protein shakes.  But I was scolded at the MD's office for not having more than just liquids- even though I drink 2 protein shakes a day to get 60 grams of protein in.  And the only things on my list other than protein shakes are broth, yogurt, sf pudding, and sf jello

They make soy yogurt, if you want to try that.  Or you can buy Lactaid tablets and have one of those before you eat your yogurt and see if that helps.

I found myself lactose intolerant after surgery- so for me it was that. But as the OP said it may not be dumping. How do you react to other lactose (i.e. milk etc) I can eat most cheeses, but not milk, yogurt, etc. Also since you're so fresh out you may be able to tolerate it later. Find something else that works for you now and try it again later. Good luck!!

I'm not doing other milk, when I was taking pain killers I took them in a spoonful or two of sf pudding.

I don't have pain after eating it like I should with dumping. I just thought I would ask others with more experience for input.

I would also agree more with being lactose intolerant.  I've been eating the Dannon Lite 'n Fit ever since I came home post op without any problems.  But everyone is different as to what they can tolerate and what they can't.

If you've got a Kroger's anywhere near, you should try their CarbMaster yogurt.  It's loaded with protein and tastes kinda cheesecakey.

I think you're probably having a reaction to the SUGAR in the yogurt -- sugar will make you have diarrhea.  Buy a plain yogurt and add a little sugar-free jam to it (preferably the kind without seeds).  My experience with Dannon Light and Fit is that it is basically flavored plastic.  Not really good nutrition.  If milk and yogurt are giving you trouble, there's a fast-acting Lactaid you can take with it that will really help.  I used that for a bit after surgery.  Your system will regulate over the next few months and you probably won't need it anymore.
