I Give Up Guys!
I am telling you, I am at my wit’s end. I started off feeling great after my wls and what it’s done for me, but I am having little problems right now. When I stood on the scale this morning, my weight said 268. That’s a total of 52lbs post-op. That’s great, but here is what is leading up to losing so much weight so quickly. I am having a heck of a time finding WHAT to eat. My taste buds are all over the place. I can only stomach 2 meals a day, 3 if I want to fall asleep miserable. I try to eat the proposed 4 and I feel like I am about to burst. I am on my soft foods phase and NOTHING feels like soft foods, or tastes good! I have been to the store getting all the foods I thought I would like and no dice, I hate them all. My stomach literally goes to work on the food it is being given immediately, and then comes the pain and rumbling. Then it decides that it hates what I ate and it doesn’t want that anymore. Not to mention that vitamins almost have me ready to to throw up! I have tried chewables, gummies, and all of them with the same effect. My stomach wants nothing! I take my medication and my vitamins, then I try to struggle down the protein and low and behold, here comes the stomach complaints as well as heaving! I am so tired of it. I know it is a little over a month since my surgery, and I am trying to keep an open mind here, but I am really getting frustrated with the way things are going. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for the weight loss, it’s just that I am clueless about what to do, and worried I won’t be able to stay healthy. I also have to admit that I have had one dumping experience, and I barely eat from that food group anymore (meat). Plus I have almost constant shivers and weakness. Fun times, eh? I am glad that I had wls, don’t get me wrong. I guess I am just confused and scared right now. Can someone give me some insight ? Maybe this happened to you?
Protein shakes give me the shakes! I don't know, I am scared that maybe there is something physically wrong. Maybe I should have mentioned that he needed to fix my esophagus too while he was doing the rny, maybe that's why the slow means of eating. Everyone says, "Don't worry, it'll get better." I guess I just worry.
I don't think there is anything wrong with you, you are only one month out. No one can manage the 4 meals a day at that point. I was barely eating more than an ounce two to three times per day then. I know it doesn't seem like you will ever feel like eating again at this point, but that will improve as you heal. Hang in there! You are doing great!
OMG I thought I was the only one that has gone through this. Every single thing you said is exactly what had happened to me. I was over it completely I couldnt handle it no more. So I had a talk with my doctor and he said to just stick with it and to start out with 1/2 an ounce and see how that settled with me. Now that I am farther out I don't have as many issues. Every once in awhile I still have issues though. Depending on what I ate, if I ate to fast, things like that. All I can tell you is talk with your surgeon tell them whats going on and keep trying different types of protein (you have to get your protein in) I hope this helps you.

Its funny. I was always hot. would run the a/c in my ca in the winter. Now I am always cold. But I would rather be cold than over weight. It is slow going from the start but you will get the hang of what foods are good for your new stomach. Keep talking to your surgeon and your nutritionist. Are you getting your water?
keep at it..giving up is simply not an option. i had a miserable time and thought i made the biggest mistake of my life. i still think that to this day but the eating thing has gotten a bit easier. i bought liquid multi vitamin at the vitamin shoppe..that helped. i ate greek yogurt one bite at a time. the container would last me four hours..but i got it down. i bought little laughing cow cheeses and ate one a day. little bites. to this day my stomach cant tolerate much and some days all i do is drink. i found nectar also at the vitamin shoppe for a protein drink. its not as thick and disgusting at the shakes. also i mix unflavored protein powder in a little room temp water and use caramel vanilla tea bags..pour the ho****er and mix mix mix..u can find a tea that you like. just keep trying ..try everything you can ..and meat of any kind i just cant do at all..so i got myself a good vegetarian cook book.
good luck girl...you are NOT alone!!!

give yourself time, your taste buds are constantly changing, especially early on, so don't rule out the protein drinks right away. Your appetite will change. Get some samples of several different kinds of protein shakes. I drink at least 1 per day, many times 2. I've found my favorite which is Nectar Cappucino, mixed w/a mix of decaf/reg coffee and fat free/skim milk. It makes for a nice warm drink. Once the cold weather is gone for good, I'll go back to cold protein shakes and put them in the blender. There is so much you can do w/the protein that is out there so don't rule out protein just yet. It's not really bad at all. I recall when I first tried fuzzy navel, I thought - YUCK!! Now, I can drink one per day and actually enjoy it.
I hear you - I had similar problems from my first RNY. I just had a revision due to complications from the first one, but don't let that scare you - most people do just fine.
I finally figured out that my pouch is much happier with warm liquids. I drink hot herbal tea all day long - cold things hurt!
My favorite is diet hot chocolate (the kind that comes in little pouches), 8 ounces of skim milk and a scoop of unflavored protein powder. I'm past the liquids part, but it sounds like going back a little would help. Try to get your protein in - you can even put the unflavored in mashed potatoes if that's what it takes to eat.
Have you talked to the nutritionist? They're great help, usually - we just have to call them.
I hope things get better soon.
