I shouldn't be disappointed, but I am a little...

I am about 24 pounds away from my surgeon's goal for me.  I'm very happy with the progress I've made since my surgery, but I'm realizing that from a size perspective, I'm not going to get much smaller.  I might drop another 2 sizes when it's all said and done.

I started out in a size 30/32, and now wear about a 16 (depending on the brand and cut).  In some things, I can wear a 14 and I even have one size 12/14 dress in my closet that I can wear now.  I also have a few pieces that are an 18 that fit.

Realistically, I'm probably going to end up in a size 14, maybe a 12, when I'm done losing.  That is so much better than I was, but I wish that I could wear an 8 or a 10.  I'm now the size I was in high school, so it's not like I've ever been a size 8 or 10 -- I just wish I could be.  At 5'8" with a large frame, it's just not in the cards for me.

I need to remember to be GRATEFUL for how far I've come instead of being so hard on myself for not getting to a size 8/10.

You are doing great, and don't give up on those size 8's! You might be surprised where you end up in a couple of years. I never in a million years would have dreamed I could be in 6's or 8's, but here I am. I think I was a size 10 or 12 when I was born! I don't remember ever wearing these sizes, even in my early teens. Just keep doing things right and your body will take you to where it wants to be, and it might surprise you.

Leanne....you are not even a year out......so truthfully you have no idea what size you might end up.......I agree...being grateful for the weight loss you've achieved is essential.....but at your stage I had lost 80 pounds....was a size 14.....which was my goal.....as I had been smaller for about 10 minutes......and I"m much smaller than that now.   I just kept moving....kept eating well.....and exercised.    I attribute about 80 pounds of my 150 pound weight loss to the surgery alone.....the rest was really because I became so focused on exercise......something I would not have believed if you had predicted it to me when I started.   Don't be dissapointed......it's a waste of precious energy.......but also recognze there are changes ahead for you......Susan

Shoot girl, you have done AWESOME!!! I started at 30/32 and probably should have been wearing a 32/34.  I STILL am wearing plus sized clothes with 100lbs lost.
Size 14 is a great size. I too have a larger frame @ 5"7 3/4 so I understand where you are coming from. Hell, my goal size is an 18 which I still can't see myself getting to. The reason I say that is because I am hippy/assey/thighy.  Do NOT be disappointed with your progess because you have done fabulously well!!!  I can't WAIT to be where you are.

Hey Leanne - I totally understand your disapointment, because I find myself day dreaming about being in a size 8/10 - I was ONCE for about 15 minutes.  I am 5'10" and I have a big frame, so I am sure it's not in my deck of cards either to be that size.  I hope to heck I can be in a size 12 when it's all done and over with - time will tell.

You have come so far - I'm sure you are very proud!  But I get the disappointment!!  This too shall pass!!!

Hey Jules

I feel exactly the same. I am 5'8" as well and also have a large frame. I guess I wasn't lying when I said I had big bones! Anyway, it seems like my body is comfortable where it is now, at a size 12. I keep teetering on being happy with where I am or if I want to lose more.

When I complained to my hubby the other day he said, "Well, would you rather be 285 again?" I laughed and said, "You're right, I'll shuddup!"

Anyway, you are not even a year out, like others have said, so don't give up hope yet. The weight just comes off slower as we get further out.

Good luck,
Jules

Don't give up yet. I started at a size 30-32 jeans and I am in a size 6-8 in jeans (I like to find ones with vanity sizing, ha, ha!) I am 5' 6" and am not exactly frail.

The last handful of pounds made a difference to my size. So, hang tough.

Besides, you feel good, and weren't you posting that strange men hit on you these days? You're doing something right, LOL.

Wow, just think of how much you have already accomplished!  I can only dream of being a size 16 right now, it's so early in the process for me.  At the risk of sounding like a complete lunatic here on these boards, I really only want to be a size 14 or 12, and hope that I don't start obsessing about being a small size. I happen to like the way some curves look. All I am saying to you is the same as others have said, be SO proud  of yourself and celebrate your successes so far, how great you feel, and how much you have improved your health.  If your body likes being a smaller size and you work at it, you Will get there!!!   Yaaa!!  You!!

You keep going Girl!
I've kept up with your posts for a while.
You are doing so well.

(Just for perspective...I started out as a 30/32...currently in a 20/22...I feel like I won the lottery!!)

Seriously, we keep moving forward because we have to.
Nature and genetics play a heavy role in where we eventually end up.

But never lose sight of how far you have come!
