I know, it's late and I should search a zillion posts on this topic. Is there a good protein drink you can find a Walmart or Krogers? Or is there one you find a health food store? What's your favorite? I can order some protein drinks later, but was curious what is readily available.

I just picked up the powdered Kroger brand "Whey Protein" in vanilla. It comes in a blue canister and has 20 g protein and 4 carbs per serving. It mixes a little thinner than some of the fancier brands I have tried, and after so many thick sweet drinks last week I like that. I put a little decaf instant coffee in it, and it tastes much better. Good luck finding your favorite.
There are some online companies that will send you samples. I like the opti slim fruit flavored ones. they are a little like coolaid. I got tired of the thick chocolate ones quick. I can't believe I got tired of chocolate but I did. I also think it helps to experiment with how much water/milk you mix with them. I mixed the fruit ones with more water then they suggest and liked it much better.
(I googled protien suppliments and found the companies and emailed them asking for samples). Two of the three I asked sent me some.

I use the protein drinks from GNC, the whey isolate protein. They have about 120 calories when mixed with water. They tend to have that protein taste to them. I have overrode that by using a small splash of extract in them when mixing them. You can buy several kinds of extract in the grocery store. I have orange now with the little extract it is much better. The biggest difference is mixing them in a blender instead of just hand mixing. I have a small single serve mixer and my son who drinks them after his workout and couldn't believe the difference the blender made. The powders are generally cheaper then the premixed, but take more of your time.
Wal-Mart does carry a small variety by the pharmacy. I always have the premixed ones on hand if I am in a hurry too. They tend to be very sweet and syrupy. The best thing you can do is get a variety until you find what taste best to you. Think of it as an investment in your future, and all the money you save on food you can spending on the protein drinks.
