Ok, I'm week 3 and am supposed to start adding soft foods to my meals. How in the world do you get 40 to 60 grams of protein in a day when you can only consume 1/4 of a cup of cottage ches, refried beans etc.......any suggestions would be helpful because I go back to work on the 15th and would like to bring food with me for lunches and breaks.

I still use protein powders on a daily basis.  In the morning, I have 8 ounces of syntrax fuzzy navel. (23 grams of protein, 90 calories).  I have the same in the PM.  That is 46 grams of protein.  I do both of these at work.  I have no problem getting in my protein this way.

Good Luck.

By using protein shakes.  I can't imagine any other way.

Something like this-

Breakfast - 1/4 cup Greek yogurt - 4 grams

Snack- 4 oz Unjury shake - 14 grams

Lunch - 1/4 cup refried beans - 3 grams

Snack - 4 oz Unjury shake - 14 grams

Dinner - 1/4 cup cottage cheese - 7 grams

Snack - 4 oz Unjury shake - 14 grams

Total - 56 grams

You can also try to get an unflavored protein powder and add that to your food, sprinkle it on top or mix it in your beans and stuff.  You can mix it in soups but you have to mix the protein with a little cold water first to avoid lumps.

I have to use protein drinks too to get in all the necessary protein.  The other day someone on the boards said the doctor from Big Medicine said we don't absorb much protein from the protein shakes, but I don't know if that is true or not.

They are mostly collagen protein though so we don't absorb much protein at all from them.

There are protein shots (liquid vials of protein) that have between 25-42 grams of protein in 2.9 - 3.4 oz sizes.  You can find them at GNC and some Costco and Target stores carry them.  I suggest trying them before buying a bunch.  I bought a bunch of the fruit punch and they were disgusting!!  I found the grape flavor tends to cover the protein flavor for the most part.

Yeah I tried those protien shots as well...they sell them at walmart...NASTY!!!  really gross smell and after taste

I was going to suggest the same as everyone else has said.  At 3 weeks, there was NO WAY I could eat enough to get the amount of protein that we need daily - just for good health's sake!  So the shakes were the only way for me.  I made them taste good by adding a little Splenda if needed. I've never had a problem drinking them, I just didn't like some of the different flavors.  Mostly I used Vanilla and Chocolate and that way I could add fruit, peanut butter, etc., and ice to my blender to even make them taste more like the shakes that I would get at one of the juice shoppes.  I played around with them until I found my favorite creations.  I loved it and I still do.  :)

Blessings on your journey!
