As a former UHC member, just a word of caution-they, too, approved my RNY 5 years ago. Then when they received the bills from the surgeon, his assistant and anesthesiology, they denied everything, saying it wasn't approved. After almost a year and several appeals from my surgeon's office, I sent them copies of their own approval letter with my appeal letter, stating if I had known they were going to deny those payments I would have performed the surgery on myself, costing them, the insurance company, much more money in complications. After 2 weeks,I received a letter stating they re-assessed my claims and paid all outstanding claims.
