Annoyed! A Vent! Swedes and their damn 5 week vacations!
So, here in beautiful Sweden, we have very long days in the Summer. Sometimes we have have 18-20 hours of daylight. It never really gets about 90 degrees at the highest. It's lovely. A nice little perk is that all Swedes get 5 weeks of paid vacation. Because of the lovely summers and the dark cold winters, of course, most Swedes take these weeks of vacation in the summer. Makes sense, right?
Well, today I found out that since so many general surgeons take their five week vacations in June and July, the bariatric surgeons cover for them. Of course, the bariatric surgeons take their vacations, too. So, there are no bariatric surgeries in Sweden in the summer. This should have been fine, as I was on a 3 month waiting list starting at the first of February. This should have put me in sometime in May. HOWEVER, as soon as I got put on the list, the wait time suddenly changed to 3-6 months. Then they informed me I would have to have my gall bladder out first and then I would have to wait 2 months post-op to get my RNY. That was great. I got my gall bladder out March 30. Now that it's out, the letter I got today says I have to wait 3 months. (It's like they've never had a RNY with gall issues before.) So, now I am having surgery some time in the fall. BAH!
I am out of school this summer and will be without a drivers license for 6 weeks or so until I can take the hardcore $1200 test they require here. I will probably have to miss some or most of the fall semester. Summer just would have been perfect. Now I am concerned that I will somehow get moved to late October or November and I am supposed to fly to the states to spend 3 weeks with my family in late December. Don't you just love it when you plan things perfectly and someone, like the folks who actually make the decisions, craps all over them?! lol I guess I have no right to ***** Free surgery. Prescribed vitamins that insurance covers. Free plastics if needed. Still, I am annoyed and just needed to vent. lol

Pink!
Free surgery. Free Meds. Free Plastics. 5 Weeks Paid Vacation. Heck, I am moving to Sweden!
All kidding aside, I am sorry that your surgery will be delayed. I know that must be extremely frustrating and annoying. But as the saying goes "All good things come to those that wait". This WILL happen for you. Hang in there!

Two of my favorite sayings are, "Life is what happens when you've made other plans", and "The truth changes". LOL. When I keep these in mind, it helps me to deal with the disappointments that life can dish out. Hang in there. It will happen. And when it does, we will all still be here to cheer you on!
