Gallbladder removal...not going well

I had my GB removed in Feb. Since then my digestive tract has been a mess. I don't know if my issues are due to my bypass, which was done 11 months before the GB removal, or if this is a common problem after a GB removal.
I have lots of bloating, gas and diarrhea. I never know if I'm going to have a good or bad day, but most of them are not so good. My doctor has me on synthetic bile salts, which has done nothing to improve my situation. My diet is super low fat, and I have to eat super small meals.
I'm afraid to eat at work, or go to my son's ball games, because of the rest room situation.
I also have pain where my GB was...not as intense as an attack but still present all the time. I'm exhausted and am still on pain meds.
My doctors are stumped and I even went to a GI who was also baffled. I can't believe how long it's taking me to heal, and am now underweight. I'm being tested for a diseased pancreas. I don't think that's what it is...but I guess that has to be ruled out.
Anyone out there have a similar story, or suggestions for me? It's been a little over 2 months since surgery and this is taking a toll on me.

I wish I had answers for you but I don't.   I know that I had pain from where my GB was for a month or so.    Also I was told that I could possibly have diarrhea ( which I never did ) but I get lots of bloating anyway and gas so not sure if that was causing it ( I had my GB out in 09 ),   Prayers being said for you that they will find some answers for you and hopefully it is just taking some time to heal and not anything else.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Thanks for the well wishes and prayers. Did your bloating eventually go away?

Yes the bloating did go away although I still bloat but I think that is from some of the dumb food choices I sometimes make.    Hope you find out what your problem is.

Have they ruled out IBS or Crohn's disease?  So sorry you're going through this. Hope they figure it out soon.

You may have a left over gallstone that moved down the common  bile duct, and it may be blocking the outlet of the pancreatic duct.  If so, you may be having pancreatic attacks.

But, I imagine your doctors have already checked for that.

This happened to me about 4 months after having my GB removed, and I wound up in the hospital for a month.  Nothing to screw around with!

Good luck,

Fred

Are you drinking milk?

Could it be that you've developed lactose intolerance (for the gas, bloating, diarrhea part of the equation)

My GB came out with emergency surgery.... it was fixin to explode.... long before my RNY

Since my GB came out, I have had Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction....ask your docs about that.

If they want to set you up with an ERCP make sure that they have large enough tools PRIOR to the ERCP.... they would need an exceptionally long tool to be able to diagnose the SOD problems in that way. They can, I've heard, diagnose with an MRCP (mri based diagnostic) but to fix it, they'd have to do surgery (can fix it endoscopically for people with a normal gut)

It was SIX weeks after my emergency GB surgery before I BEGAN to taper off the pain meds, and it was SIX months before I began to feel normal again.

RNY on 03/12/12 with
I had my gallbladder removed 11 years ago and I suffer constantly from cramping and diarrhea.  I haven't had my RNY yet and so what you are experiencing probably has nothing to do with it.  When I eat my first meal of the day, I can barely fini**** before my stomach starts to cramp, I get sweaty, start to cramp in pain and I run to the bathroom. Just from eating a ham sandwich I can have 2 or 3 episodes.  And since dinner is my bigger meal, it continues on, even worse,  The diarrhea gets so bad that I sometimes suffer from hemorrhoids from going, wiping , etc and even from bleeding episodes.  I can never eat and then go somewhere unless I know I have access to a bathroom. And don't get me started on when I'm driving and stuck in traffic...lol.

I recently had a colonoscopy done to rule out other issues.  Nothing was found except internal hemorrhoids and a diverticulum which is just a strained bowel that causes no problem unless it becomes infected. My doctor said that after gall bladder removal the bile mixes in your stomach and causes this. I never took the powder he prescribed to help with it because Ive been living with it for so long, I'm used to it.  I have noticed that the higher the food is in fat, the more times I go, but even a bowl of cereal can make me sick.  I wish I could say that it gets better, but for me . Its just something I Iive with.   I do wonder, that when I have RNY, if this will change.  Good luck

I had my gall bladder out prior to my RNY surgery.  I had a long period of time where I experienced "explosive diarrhea". It did take quite a few months for my body to adjust. It was not fun but eventually it did stop.

I am less than a month out from GB removal and I still have a little pain and I really don't know how my digestive track is going to be each day. Some days are somewhat normal, others are one extreme or the other. I figure it's just taking some time for my body to adjust to being without the gall bladder. Maybe it's just taking a little longer for you to adjust?
Pretty pretty please, don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f*ckin' perfect.
