Amazing

I don't normally post, but I do try visit the site as often as I can.  I am 8 months out and completed my first 1/2 maration Sunday in Oklahoma City.  I am simply amazed, I would NEVER have dreamed or even considered I would have ever be able to run a mile much less 13.1.   Just a quick explanation, I was 300 at my heaviest with a host of medical conditions;  I was on an insulin pump with U500 taking literally hundreds of units daily with my A1c ranging from 16.7 to 12.  I had high blood pressure and as most of you can imagine many more medical issues including sleep apnea, neuropathy and more.  Anyway, I had a RNY on September 7, 2010 which changed my life.  I am not her to advertise or put one surgery over the other, all I am saying that the RNY has really helped me.  I have tremendous support from my family so when I began walking in the hospital I haven't stopped.  I increased when I could; usually after one or two weeks adding 1/2 to 1 mile.  I currently get up around 3:15am and do 10 miles before work.   My wife and I run together one to two days a week, but she says I am nuts getting up at 3 so she leaves that to me.   So as I said on Sunday I was privilaged to participate in the OKC Memorial Maration which honored those victims from the bombing of the Federal Building in Oklahoma City 16 years ago.  The weather was crazy, COLD, WET and WINDY, but thousands paid tribute to those who lost their lives to terrorism and also those *****main behind to mourn their loss.

To those who think you can't "YOU CAN", don't give up and remember every day what brought you here.  I thank God for supporting me through my journey, my family who without them I would be lost and finally to Dr. Carroll and the staff at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood, MS.

These procedures are not a "quick fix", but a tool that if used correctly will do wonders for you health wise.  However, like any tool if not used correctly or at all you will not have the results or expectations you deserve.

I thank you for taking the time to read this, a short version of my journey.

I was also at the okc marathon.  I did the relay with my family.  I am about to reach my 2 year surgery date and I would never have dreamed of doing the things I have done these last 2 years without my surgery.  Life is so much fun now.  The marathon was an amazing experience and the rain made it even more so.  Glad to hear you did it and your life is only going to get better.
