Not loving my RNY these days....

Hey yall. Im just needing to vent a little today . I'm almost 2 years post op RNY. I have had to have 8 procedures done to try and expand the opening to my tummy. It just will not stay open and I throw up alot. I have been hospitalized b/c it gets so bad I can't even keep water down. And we have just moved to another part of the state so I have to start over with a new primary doctor who has to refer me to a specialist. I wake up during these procedures with the scope rammed down my throat and in my tummy. Gagging horribly...painfully...then my throat is raw for several days. They prescribe carafate and that stuff is disgusting...and you have to take it on an empty stomach 4 times a day. You know how hard that is? I got to where I just set my alarm and wake up and take the stupid stuff. But it still doesn't work to keep my tummy healed.
My second gripe is that my stomach is so loud, I am embarassed to meet new people...go to church...get a job...volunteer...anything. I seriously see this as something that will turn me into a recluse. People laugh at this and don't think its a big deal but it is. Its not just a tummy growling...it sounds horrible.
Looking good is not worth constant procedures and being alone.
Thats all.

((hugs)) Maybe a new doctor will be able to do the procedure so it lasts?

I've heard other people talk about the tummy rumbling but I've never had it. Is it all the time or have you been able to write down your food and see if something specific is causing it?

I know constantly going to the doctor bites the big one, but please persevere. You should not be throwing up all the time. Someone should be able to fix you. I'm so sorry

Thanks Judi. I am hoping that I might get some new insight from my new doctor.
The noises my tummy makes are constant. Even a sip of water causes it. I even try to eat early...like at 7 am or so and then go to church at 9 and its so loud and embarassing. I just don't even want to go. I know it embarasses my family too :(

The tummy noises. Wow I used to name them. I only get them
occasionally now. But man were they loud at times. Embarrassing
in public. With the noises just take it as normal. We all have our quirks.
You cant control these noises any more than a  new mom cant control when
her baby is gonna cry in church. No big deal. As for the other problem you
are dealing with, I am sorry that I cant help other
then to agree that the carafate is disgusting! Don't give up on finding a
reason for your problem. We are here for you.

Thanks Dani for your kind words. I wi**** were that easy to just ignore it.
Did you have to take carafate right after  your surgery? or have you had to have the dialation procedure done too?

I had to start the carafate about 4 weeks after my surgery. They thought I had
a stricture but it was the start of an ulcer. I stopped the carafate after about
two weeks and started to take care of the ulcer holistically. I used two
products from my holistic nutritionist, about 4-5months and they
really helped my body heal itself.
one was a powder with Glutamin, licorice root and aloe leaf extracts.
second was zinc-carosine
These two together worked for ME to heal MY problem.
I was and still am at a point in my life where I don't trust traditional
medicine anymore. I used the surgery as my last hu-rah with traditional
medicine, to get off meds, to stop going to the doctor for all the swelling and
pain I was having. I am very happy with treating my body holistically.
I wish you the best of luck, remember to fight for yourself you are worth it.
Don't take "i dont know" as an answer. Someone is out there who can help you!

Hi,

I'm so sorry that you are going through your tummy issues.  Please let the tummy noises be the last of your concern! Focus on getting back healthy and enjoying your life.  As I write this, I'm drinking a cup of coffee and my tummy is gurgling something awful (LOL).

I have gotten used to it and I dont think people really care one way or another.  Just be thankful you dont have horrible gas.  My family is about to disown me!  Oh yea and the hiccups/belches.  I just say excuse me and keep it moving.

Keep your head up and let your focus be on getting well God Bless.

Dear Tina Marie,
You poor thing! What a terrible ordeal you are going through...you are probably so sick of hospitals...I hope your new doctor can help with this, it sounds difficult to have any quality of life. I had to take Carafate after an endoscopy due to stomach polyps and it was revolting.
Good luck to you,
Nancy

Thank you Nancy and Elle. I wish I could get over it and forget it (the tummy sounds). I pray all thru church that it won't make noise...therefore I couldn't even tell you what the sermon was about I was so not focused.
Its going to be a while before I can see my new doc and then he has to write a referral. I hope I can make it til then. Today has been bad...can't hold anything down. I hate hospitals..and don't wanna go back in.

Did you know that Carafate come in pill form? Now, from your post it may NOT be what you need, as the pills are HUGE and chalky, but the do NOT taste bad and work just as good IF you can get them TO the stomach pouch. I've been on them for gastritis and esophagitis and they helped me out. Good luck!
