Hi there... I'm a pre-op *****cently went through an orientation session a couple months back, and I remembered that a pre-requisite for this surgery was that you had to quit smoking.

Thankfully 2 years 142 days ago I had quit.

I felt bad for the few people in the room that still had that battle ahead of them before embarking on the WLS journey.

I just wanted to post this book that changed my life...It's called

The Easy Way To Quit Smoking, by Allen Carr.

www.amazon.ca/Allen-Carrs-Easy-Stop-Smoking/dp/0973468408

By the time I had finished this little book, I had thrown out my last couple cigarettes in the garbage and never looked back. It really was quite empowering.

If you know of anyone who has tried to quit and struggled with it, I beg of you to buy them this $14 book and change their lives forever. It truly changed mine.

Take Care out there...

Good for you for quitting!!! I quit 21 years ago, it was one of the hardest things I've ever done, and I haven't looked back either. Best thing I've ever done for me, besides my surgery, that is.

What are you having done and when?

Hi Anne... I'm having the Roux-en-Y and I am estimating by surgery to be January 2012 in Toronto.
I am very excited to do this for myself. I am really enjoying this website, so much to learn, so many tips and so many encouraging stories and people!

I promise you this book will change how you think about smoking... and that was my biggest challenge when I quit... the mental addiction. Best of Luck to you...you will be amazed by how it really has nothing to do with willpower. Don't forget to pay it forward when you quit....there are so many people that WANT to quit but don't think they can... and then they read this book and amaze themselves!

Also,  there is an online support group site called Quitnet.  I used it like I do this site.  It really helps to have that support in as many ways as we can get it.  Allen Carr's book is great.  You can download it on the Quitnet site as a PDF if you do not want to buy it.

I smoked up until the morning of my surgery.  The day I was released, I tried to smoke and found it disgusting.  Even if you don't smoke...post-op, you will!
