I haven't been on here in a long time...I had my rny surgery last Nov. almost exactly
a year. I was wondering is there a test or a diet that I can do to stop my weight from
stalling or to get back to having my pouch letting me know when I have gone too
far with eatting. I have done well, lost almost 80 lbs. but still need to lose more.
Seems that I can eat more now. I thought I remembered seeing where there was
a diet or way to do a check on the pouch...Please let me know if anyone knows...
Thanks! This has been the best thing I have ever done in my life....Almost all of
my medical problems are gone...Diabetes...gone,high blood pressure...gone....
breathing so much better...no sleep apnea, it has really changed my life so much!
Just was wondering if there is a diet that we can do to kinda jump start my pouch!
LOL. Happy Dieting!

Dear Mary -  Ure so pretty  !

Have U ever considered EXERCISE   as  a PERMANENT  way to lower Ur body's setpoint   as opposed to DIETING which puts weight ON long term ?

Id go RUNNING if I were U  .. or at least invest in a great  walkman / i pod and  go WALKING regularly .   If U walk thru th e local shopping districts or with a talkative  friend U wont even NOTICE ur exercising lol !!

Exercis e is FUN !   It can be profoundly mood lifting and  body - sculpting !  it really improves Ur  sex life !     MOVE   Grrrl !

PSA - Don't ever take any advice from the nutcase that just responded to you. Please read a BUNCH of her prior posts, and then consider her advice.

I think you are looking for the pouch test. I'm sure I'm not going to explain it correctly, as I don't have a pouch. I think you are supposed to measure out a certain amount of cottage cheese. Eat as much as you can to feel full. Not overly full, like in your throat full. Just full. Then measure the remainder and that should be close to the size of your pouch.

What I'd recommend is really tracking what you are eating. It's so easy to forget the little things we munch on during the day. There are plenty of free trackers out there, but I personally love Sparkpeople. Aim for higher protein and moderate complex carbs. Try to keep simple carbs to a minimum. Yes, exercise is important, but everything I've ever read (and I've read a LOT) indicates that weight loss is achieved by around 90% diet, 10% exercise.

Congratulations on how far you've come. Of course you will be able to eat more as your pouch matures. Don't freak out, this just happens. You can't live on teaspoons of food forever.

"The Pouch Test" is a five day semi-starvation diet.

And what Janice said about the nutcase.

The 5 day pouch test is a diet fad - it will mess with your metabolism as much as anything you did prior to WLS.

Stick with the basics, protein first, good quality nutritious food, vitamins and exercise - journal if you need to check what you are eating every day ...

True what you were told.  Your best bet is to focus on what you are eating.  As women, we can lose weight with diet, we can lose with diet and exercise, but exercise alone won't do it for us.  We do gain the health benefits from doing exercise, and we extend our ability to keep the weight off longer.  But if weight loss is what you are after, the best bet is cutting back the fat and calories.
