B-12 and D3

Just went to my PCP.  He agreed my B-12 and D3 were too low.  He told me 2500mcg per day is ok.  Too much?  He said when he checks it again in a few months we can always cut it back.  I also picked up D3 1000mcg.  How much of this should I be taking?  He gave me no advice on this and I forgot to ask.

Thanks!

For the B12, you need:

B12 subcutaneous injectin; 1000mcg; once per month

OR

B12 sublingual; 500-1000mcg; once daily

For the D3, you need:

DRY formula; it comes in 1000 Units, 2000 Units, 5000 Units, or 50,000 Units; how much you take depends on your level.

2500 mcg a day is good since your B12 is so low.

for D3, yours is only about half of what it should be.  I would take 50,000 IU daily for a month or two.  1000 IU is like nothing.  Gosh, you'd need to take at least ten, probably more like 50, a day.  I'd return that one and order the 50,000 from vitalady, personally.

If you decide to take D3 50k iu - think twice before taking it every day for months without checking your levels ...  I had a level below yours and took it 3 x per week for 10 weeks and ended up with a near toxic level!   We do NOT all malabsorb at the same levels and we are seeing more and more newbies taking this advice and coming back with levels in the 200's - this is NOT GOOD!

Toxicity has health consequences!

Every patient is not identical in the amount of some specific vitamin shorages.  I'd still do the dry D3, but at 3-4 per week, and get labs done again in a month.  With 2500mcg, your B12 levels will likely be high. but your can adjust the B12, D3 or other vitamins at that time.  1000mcg of D3 is almost a waste of time--won't do much good. My body appears to need a 50K IU dry d3 almost daily. After 4 of the 50K IU per week for 2 1/2 years, my labs were at a 65. Desired levels are at 80-90 for best caclium absorbtion and a lot of other reasons.  DAVE

Everyone is different. how much B12 were you taking when your levels tanked? I was taking 2500 mg of the cyanocoalbumin daily and my levels decreased.

So I started taking the more expensive better absorbed methylcoalbumin and my levels are going up.  Shots would be best to get you up but everyone is radically different on the B12

Same with the D. How much have you been taking?  I take the 10,000 IU sublinguals I got from Vitalady daily. My levels stayed the same.

I take 50,000 iu (yes, fifty thousand) of D3 daily.

The current recommendation for D3 for normal people is 2,000 IU a day.

If your levels are low, you probably want to take more than that for a while and then retest in, say, a month or two.

I take 2000 IU a day in various sources (my multis, my calcium) and then 50,000 IU once a week in winter and maybe I skip a week once in a while in the summer. That gets me up in the 75-100 range, which is good.
