Here it is, I'm home and feeling pretty good. I came home Friday morning and was excited to be back. As you know hospitals are the best place to stay. My check in and surgery went without any issue I got into my room about 12:30 on Wednesday after recovery.Between surgery and recovery it was a little over 4 hours. i don't remember getting from here to there. The first day all I was allowed was ice chips and water. That wasn't any issue at all. I would doze in and out of sleep and actually felt pretty good. My only issues was tenderness to the abdomen when trying to move in the bed. I made lots of calls and was doing really well that day. My nurse told me I would be much sorer the next day. She was right! But I can tolerate it.

Day 2 I had 3 tests scheduled in radiology to monitor the esophagus and the stomach with drinking 3 different vile tasting magnesium's for each test. After those I started feeling more queasy and half sick. Remember no food whatsoever and that laying on my stomach. Awful. I finally got a cherry juice bar in the late afternoon and my dinner tray was 2 oz of chicken broth and 2 oz of jello. I ate about half of broth and never touched the jello, but at least is was something warm and tasted good. I got sick at 1 am from the crap I had to drink from the tests. They called my doctor in the middle of night and asked if samples should be sent to the lab and he said NO I was ok and it was understandable. The nurses were concerned for me. They were worried of the red in the mess and I told them it was from my cherry juice bar. I was right. They had the cleaning crew in to wash the floors in the middle of the night, so humiliated but everyone understood.

I am taking it easy, sleeping on my couch downstairs since I can't sleep on my tummy as normal.I had a drain tube for the 2 days and happy to have that removed. I have 5 incisions and am sore.

Minor gas, little pain and feeling pretty good overall. Today I had 3 tsp on chicken broth and an orange popsicle.  Not hungry so weird. I plan on taking it easy until my follow up at the doc on  Wednesday at 10:30  Been trying to drink the water and I have it in a shot glass to prevent over gulping. It reminds me to sip it....that is really necessary!!!! be sure and get one if you don't have one. You feel a tightness in the top of your chest if you over do.

other then that, it good, very good.

thanks for all the prayers and thoughts I am BACK.

 Hi Nance,

I had my RNY in 2007 and nothing to eat in the hospital until right before I left two days after surgery.  Getting sick is no fun and it was probably way to early for the juice bar.  Just rest, sip and do a little movement every 15 minutes or so to prevent clots.

In time you will be capable of eating and drinking again.  For me, the hunger never did come back.  I love that about the surgery.

Hi Nance,
I am so glad things went well for you.  I am sure Bella missed you too.
It is wonderful to have the surgery over with and the recovery under way.
I wish you all the best.  If I were closer I would come and help you, but Upland, CA
is a bit out of reach.  I still haven't got the word on my surgery date.  I called
Friday, but was told they aren't scheduling people from my Options class yet.
I left a message for my doctor to see if he could do anything to move it along.
Just a little worried about the insurance thing.  I am sure it will all work out
the way it is supposed to.  Take care of yourself and give Bella a hug from me.

Don't forget to get up and walk around to help get the anesthisia out of your body.  They usually use somekind of gas to blow up your abdomen so they have room to move around.  You have to work it out by walking around.

Welcome to your new life, enjoy!
