How long could it take?

I am currently going through my clearances, but I wanted to find out from everyone how long did it take from submitting to insurance (after all the tests that need to be done) and getting a surgery date?

I basically want to know if I should be expecting another month between getting all the clearances done and submitting to insurance till I get a date. I am looking at either the sleeve or RNY.

My surgeon explained that it could take anywhere from 24 hours up to 3 months to get the final approval from the insurance. HTH!

It depends what your insurance does. Sometimes they take the maximum to respond or deny you for silly reasons like they did me. I wish you the best of luck! Hoping things go smoothly for you!

It depends a lot on your insurance.

From seminar to submitting took me 6 weeks. From submitting to approval took a week, then another week to get a date scheduled, then 4 weeks until the date actually arrived. So about 3 months from seminar to surgery.

WOW! I know it all depends on the insurance. I wanted to find out what others have gone through. I am trying to determine if I should take my time or get everything done now and have that possibility of getting a date quickly. There is one date I cannot change and that is May 25th. I have to be available to take care of my grandmother so my Mom can go camping for the weekend.

I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and so far everything is going smoothly on the clearances. Just a few more to do then we can submit.

It took a couple of months to get all of the appts completed before submitting to insurance. The insurance co reserved 30 days to give an answer - but I got one in 10 days. After that and I was approved, my surgery date was 6 weeks later.

It took a month to get my approval after everything was submitted.  I got approval in August and a surgery date in November.  If you get your paperwork done and get a date that does not work for you, it is easy to schedule a later date with your surgeon.  That is easier than not knowing when the approval will happen.

Good point. I have been anxiously waiting trying to keep it out far enough. Maybe I should go ahead and get everything done right away. I can always push the surgery date out a little if I need to. I would be devastated if I find out my insurance doesn't approve after all of this.
