Sad Day for America.....

I cannot fathom the senseless shooting of innocent people at a movie premiere, my heart truly goes out to the survivors, their family and friends.  I woke to hear the horrific news, all I could think of was that could have been my son.  All my son has talked about for months was the upcoming Batman movie, he couldn't wait to go at midnight to see it, he is a huge movie buff and loves the midnight screenings.  I got him hooked on them when he was young and the Lord of the Ring triology started on his birthday.  I let him skip a day of school and go see the movie as a birthday present.  It was so much fun.  To think this day that should have been a fun outting for so many turned into a horrible tragedy is unimaginable.  I have read the news reports and looked at the picture of the shooter, I look into his eyes expecting to see some evil and I see nothing.  How someone could have so little regard for human life I cannot understand, can never imagine.  My bf and I bought tickets yesterday to see the movie this morning, to say the least it wasn't the experience I had been looking forward too.  My son never made his midnight screening either, he had to reschedule to Imax at noon today because he started his new job and had to work last night.  It is such a sad and tragic day.

He had everything to live for, he could have done so much good as a doctor.  How could this happen....

Yes, my heart is broken.  I live in Denver and in shock along with the community I love so much.  It brings the emotions from Columbine right back.  How can someone be so evil?

I read the reports and all I feel is numb, my brain can't believe it is true.  I honestly feel sick.  I just feel so much sorrow.

I live in Castle Rock and it doesn't seem like 5 minutes ago we were watching wildfires ravage our great state ...

My son often goes to midnight movie screenings, but thankfully he's not a great Batman fan.

James Holmes looks like a perfectly normal, intelligent, educated 24 year old - scarey stuff!!!!

The people of this state are so loving and caring (I am a foreign implant, like most others) and we will get through this together!

This has been an emotionally draining summer with the fires and now this.  You are absolutely right ....the people of Colorado are the most wonderful and caring of anywhere.  We will get through this together and heal together.

After seeing him this morning, the photo the media has been using isn't accurate...apparently he took on the persona of The Joker...looked very disconnected at the hearing.  It is almost certain the defense is going to try to use an insanity defense strategy.

Reading the comments on the Denver Post online this morning is scary - I live among a whole host of fruitcakes of the hang 'em and flog 'em variety!!! These people worry me more than my chance of coming across another James Holmes.!

James Holmes is clearly mentally ill and certainly looked heavily medicated at his arraignment this morning - his parents knew he had a problem and I'm sure others will come forward - maybe people at his Uni?

Anyway, whatever his mental illness, I hope he continues to get treatment at a suitable facility and that might not be jail! Clearly society needs to be protected from him and he needs some form of punishment too but our need for revenge shouldn't overtake our humanism or we are no better than he was that night!

I heard people talking earlier about the guy being a PhD student in nuclear physics and the stress causing him to do it.

I'm just sad he hasn't killed himself yet, really. What an asshole. No explanation in the world is going to be good enough to let him off the hook.
