Sad Day for America.....

Since this shooting, and after every other shooting we all hear the same thing. More gun control is the answer. Easton mall in Canada (very strict gun laws) is an example where gun control doesn’t work. Colorado has some pretty tight gun control laws and we still had a shooting. FT Hood Texas where ALL soldiers were disarmed and we had a mass shooting. As a former LE Officer I am all too familiar that criminals DO NOT OBEY LAWS! Making more gun laws hasn’t and never will work. You don’t punish the dog for something the cat did. As a former LE Officer I now have a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) and train often. I carry a firearm at all times. I always have. There are what I call “Sheepdogs" in America. Those willing to protect the innocent. While not in Drug Enforcement any longer I would not have hesitated to engage an active shooter. Recently in Florida an internet café was being robbed by a thug with a gun and another with a bat. A 63 year old “Sheepdog" took out his concealed semi auto and fired striking one bandit and the other fled. Think of all the former military and LE officers that SHOULD be allowed to easily get a CHL. You don’t want a cop on every corner. That’s a police state. But what about well trained law abiding citizens sitting among every one that will engage criminals when needed?  If they are well trained do they have to be former LE? Here in Texas CHL’s are relatively easy to get if you’re not a criminal. Now one might argue how little range time is required but the point is this. During the Austin tower incident in 1969 a marine sniper went nuts at the UT college campus and started shooting from the Austin tower. In minuets farmers and ranchers pulled high powered hunting rifles from their trucks and pinned him down until police could gain access to the tower and shoot him saving who knows how many lives. You’ll never stop nut jobs that want to cause harm by removing “Sheepdogs" from society. The law abiding citizen in Texas sitting next to you may just be carrying a firearm. And you just might be saved by such a man or women. I urge all men & women, if you’ve never been convicted of a felony, live in a state where it’s allowed, get your license and train regularly. The life you save, if ever, may be someone you love. The only way to stop a mad man….is with a bullet. The key is training and willingness. It’s not for everyone. But don’t punish the dog for something cat did. It just makes more cats. You get the idea. My heart and prayers go out those families.

PS:  To the women asking about assult weapons.  It's not the gun that does the damage.  It's the bullet and the person.  I have a VERY powerful assult rifle.  In Switzerland EVERY adult man or women is issued an assult rifle and MUST prove proficency with it annually. 

By the way, they have the lowest crime rate in the world!!!!

Yes, it was a tragic day and a senseless act of violence that we may never fully understand.  Unfortunately, we should not be surprised when we hear these things because we hear of them so much these days.  The bible tells us at 2 Tim 3 that we are "living in critical times...where people are lovers of themselves and have no natural affection"...sad, but true.  My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and the family of the shooter.
