What is even sadder is the comments left by readers, which once again reflects that bullying of the obese is acceptable...

There's a lot more to the story than simply "She was too fat." She was also way too sick for a long flight. Her husband should have gotten her into a hospital ASAP and not been dicking around trying to fly back across the ocean, for goodness' sake.

Absolutely true.

I'm wondering if the weight was the corollary issue with her health issue being the primary issue the airlines refused to let her fly.  Was she ill when they flew TO Europe?  These facts are not addressed by the media.

My father got ill when we were a few days in on a Balkan cruise.  I had admitted to a hospital in Helsinki through the Emergency Room and, while he was getting medical attention, got a taxi to the ship to get our stuff off and got a hotel room.  My actions saved his life.  Neither cruise ships nor planes or any other form of transit (except Medivac, ambulances or the like) can adequately address health care issues.
